Tua Tagovailoa’s time in Miami appears to be coming to an end. The Dolphins are reportedly benching the former Alabama star and giving ex-Texas standout Quinn Ewers the start on Sunday.

A former 1st-round pick in 2020, Tagovailoa is in his sixth professional season. Ewers is in his rookie year and was a 7th-round pick in this year’s draft.

This season, Miami is 6-7 in Tagovailoa’s 13 starts. Tagovailoa’s numbers are down from last season, with his passer rating at a career low of 86.4.The QB is completing 66.9% of his passes, down from 72.9% in 2024 and 69.3% in 2023. His yards per attempt have dipped to 6.8, after being 8.9 (2022), 8.3 (2023) and 7.2 (2024). Through 13 games, Tagovailoa has thrown 18 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. He last threw 14 INTs in 2023 through 17 games when he also threw 29 TDs.

If Miami is moving on from Tagovailoa, it comes with a major financial impact. Coming off a career year in 2023 in which he led the league with 4,624 passing yards, Tagovailoa signed a massive 4-year extension.

The NFL regular season is entering its final stretch heading into the back half of December, and contending teams around the league are looking to add whatever reinforcements they can as they prepare for a run at Super Bowl glory.

The resurgent Denver Broncos have once again found themselves atop the AFC after locking up their postseason invitation by defeating the Green Bay Packers this past Sunday, and they will be getting a boost to their run game in the form of former Mizzou standout Cody Schrader.

Denver announced they had officially claimed the SEC’s leading rusher from 2023 off of waivers from the Los Angeles Rams with a post on their official X account Monday evening.

Schrader, who played for Mizzou from 2022 to 2023, was an absolute star for the Tigers, racking up 2,700 total yards and 23 total touchdowns across his 2 seasons in Columbia.

His 1,627-yard 14-touchdown campaign in 2023 led to him being named a unanimous first-team All-American, and he signed with the Rams as an UDFA following the 2024 NFL Draft.

Schrader was unable to carve out a role for himself during his 2 seasons in LA, but he will now have the opportunity to make an impact on the NFL’s top teams heading into the Playoffs.

Jayden Daniels has reportedly played his last snap of 2025.

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport shared Monday that the Washington Commanders have elected to shut down Daniels for the remainder of the season. The club made the decision after Daniels’ latest evaluation.

Monday’s decision does not come as a huge surprise, as the injury bug has been rough on Daniels in 2025, his second professional season. This year, Daniels has dealt with a knee sprain, a hamstring strain and, most recently, an elbow injury.

In 2025, Daniels played in just 7 games. He was 114-of-188 passing for 1,262 yards, 8 touchdowns and 3 interceptions rushing 58 times for 278 yards and 2 scores.

Daniels, a Heisman Trophy winner at LSU, was the Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024. In his debut season, Daniels completed 69% of his passes (331-of-480) for 3,568 yards and 25 touchdowns to 9 interceptions. He also rushed 148 times for 891 yards and 6 scores as a rookie.

The Washington Commanders are 4-10 this season with 3 games to go.

Patrick Mahomes suffered an apparent injury to his left knee on Sunday toward the waning moments of the Kansas City Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers that eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention.

Mahomes was forced to leave the game with 1:53 remaining, missing the chance to help Kansas City pull the game out and save its season. Instead, the Chiefs had to turn to backup Gardner Minshew as Mahomes walked off the field with assistance.

The injury to Mahomes happened as he was rolling out to the right and looking to fire the ball downfield. He fell awkwardly to the ground after being yanked down by Chargers defensive tackle and Alabama product Da’Shawn Hand. As Hand was pulling Mahomes to the ground, his leg was bent in an awkward fashion.

Mahomes was down on the field for a long time as trainers took a look at his leg. Eventually, the former Texas Tech star got to his feet, took off his helmet and went to be examined in the medical tent.

Then there was this gruesome scene of Mahomes not being able to walk as he was assisted down the Chiefs tunnel for further examination:

https://twitter.com/SMHighlights1/status/2000313454880784880

The loss to the Chargers continued what has been a frustrating season for the Chiefs, who will not even get a chance to return to the Super Bowl for the 4th straight season. Instead, they fell to 6-8 on the year and will play out the string before missing the playoffs for the first time since 2014.

But Kansas City’s playoff plight was far from the only concern at Arrowhead Stadium by day’s end, as Mahomes was dealing with that gruesome injury.

A myriad of injuries and overall struggles within the New York Jets’ quarterback room have prompted undrafted free agent Brady Cook to take over as the starting signal-caller during the past two weeks.

And while the former Missouri quarterback’s debut against Miami was less than encouraging, Cook got out to a hot start Sunday against Jacksonville.

Trailing 14-0 late in the first quarter, Cook and the Jets’ much-maligned offense mounted a scoring drive that resulted in the quarterback’s first-career touchdown pass. The rookie dropped back and fired a ball up the seam, and third-year receiver Adonai Mitchell rose up for the scoring snag.

The first touchdown of any player’s professional career deserves plenty of celebration, and Brady’s parents Amy and Jim filled that role while in attendance for their son’s second NFL start.

Cook started 9-for-12 on the afternoon, having thrown for 73 yards and a touchdown against the Jaguars. He has also carried the ball twice for 13 yards.

SEC fans likely remember Cook from his days at Missouri, where the St. Louis native eventually earned a starting spot at his home-state school and became a program legend from 2022-2024. The dual-threat quarterback accounted for 9,251 passing yards, 1,262 rushing yards and 71 total touchdowns during his career, all while leading the Tigers to back-to-back 10-win seasons in ’23 and ’24.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are gearing up for a pivotal late-season matchup against the Miami Dolphins on Monday Night Football, as they look to maintain their tenuous grasp on the NFC North heading into the final stretch of the regular season.

Steelers’ star quarterback Aaron Rodgers will need all the help he can get against a Miami squad that has quietly been one of the hottest in the NFL over the past several weeks.

Luckily for both Rodgers and the Steelers, it looks like one of his biggest targets will be suiting up as ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported on Sunday afternoon that tight end Darnell Washington has officially cleared the concussion protocol.

A former third-round pick out of Georgia, Washington has been having a career year in 2025, hauling in 23 receptions for 223 yards and a touchdown across the 13 games Pittsburgh has played so far.

The gargantuan 6’7 260 260-pound tight end is a key piece of the Steelers’ offense, serving as both a red zone mismatch and a huge piece in the run game as an extra blocker on the outside.

Now that he’s officially cleared the concussion protocol, Pittsburgh is likely to utilize the big man in multiple ways as they attempt to knock off the Dolphins at home on Monday night.

The Indianapolis Colts sent shockwaves through the NFL earlier in the week when it was announced they were signing retired star quarterback Philip Rivers to their practice squad following a rash of injuries at the QB position.

The longtime Chargers signal caller hadn’t played a snap of football since the 2020 season, and he had also been officially retired since January of 2021.

Despite this long layoff, Rivers appears to be on the verge of making his return to the gridiron at 44 years old, with ESPN insider Pete Thamel reporting that Indianapolis is activating the veteran from the practice squad ahead of this Sunday’s matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.

A 2004 first-round draft pick out of North Carolina State, Rivers spent the first 16 years of his professional career with the Chargers, where he became one of the most consistent quarterbacks of the 2000s and 2010s, before spending his last season with the Colts in 2020.

Over his 17 seasons in the NFL, Rivers racked up over 63,000 passing yards, 421 passing touchdowns, and completed just under 65% of his passes. He was also named to 8 Pro Bowls during this stretch, and was the 2013 NFL Comeback Player of the Year. Now, he’ll be looking to add the title of “Super Bowl Champion” to his resume in 2025 with the Colts.

Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson apologized late Thursday night for a comment he made while on the postgame Thursday Night Football studio show.

Following Atlanta’s 29-28 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Robinson was one of several players who joined the Prime Video postgame show to discuss the performance. At one point, analyst Richard Sherman referenced a play where Robinson made several defenders miss and likened it to backyard football.

Robinson caught the reference and used a name that has long been used to describe the keepaway game — “smear the q****.” The former Texas tailback quickly took to social media to apologize for the reference.

“Hey everyone I want to apologize for the insensitive comment I made in the broadcast,” Robinson said in a post. “It was a football game we used to play as a kid but that’s not an excuse. I recognize the mistake and make sure to do better in the future. It was not reflective of my beliefs and I am so sorry to those I offended seriously!”

The postgame comment overshadowed what was a wonderful night for Robinson.

Robinson finished with 93 rushing yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. He also had 8 receptions for 82 yards. It marked the fourth time this season the third-year back has had at least 170 scrimmage yards in a game.

Former Florida tight end Kyle Pitts Sr. had himself quite a night in Tampa Bay on Thursday Night Football with a 3-touchdown performance that helped lead his Atlanta Falcons to a 29-28 win over the Buccaneers.

Pitts ended the night with 11 receptions for 166 yards and 3 touchdowns. It’s the first time all season that Pitts has surpassed the 100-yard receiving mark and his first multi-touchdown game of the season.

According to ESPN Research, Pitts is the first tight end with at least 150 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns in a game since 1996, and he is one of only 5 tight ends to reach these numbers since 1970.

This is Pitts’s first game surpassing 100 yards receiving since December 26, 2021, when he totaled 6 receptions for 102 yards against the Detroit Lions. This is also his second multi-touchdown game since entering the NFL in 2021. The other game came last year against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well. Pitts ended that game with 4 receptions for 91 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Bucs just couldn’t seem to find an answer for stopping Pitts.

Coming out of Florida, Pitts was regarded as a unicorn at the tight end position and was selected 4th overall by the Atlanta Falcons. Up until this point, Pitts has had a fairly disappointing start to his NFL career. Hopefully, a performance like Thursday night’s can help flip the script.

The post Here’s what prediction markets are saying about the top Super Bowl contenders appeared first on Saturday Down South.

]]>
The NFL regular season is winding down, so it’s a good time to take a look at the prediction market space in an effort to evaluate the top Super Bowl contenders.

This story will look at current Super Bowl market prices on Kalshi — a predictions market that’s live in all 50 US states.

While the Broncos and Patriots currently have the best records in the NFL (both teams are 11-2), Kalshi’s market doesn’t show either of those franchises among the top Super Bowl contenders.

Super Bowl odds

While prices expressed in this story are subject to change at any time, this chart showing the top contenders will update automatically based on game results, injuries and other market factors:

Let’s break down why Los Angeles, Seattle and Buffalo are currently the top Super Bowl contenders on Kalshi

Los Angeles Rams

As of this writing, the Rams are far and away the favorite on Kalshi to win the Super Bowl in 2026. They’re currently trading at 19 cents per contract (correct predictions are paid out at $1 per contract, so this is roughly 5-to-1 odds in traditional sports betting terms).

The Rams have a QB-head coach combo that has won the Super Bowl before in Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford. Their offense has also been elite during the regular season. The Rams rank No. 2 in the NFL in EPA-per-play entering Week 15. By EPA, the Rams are the No. 4 drop-back offense in the NFL and have the No. 1 rushing attack.

Defensively, the Rams rank 3rd in the NFL in EPA-per-play allowed and No. 6 in success rate. Per ESPN’s NFL Football Power Index, the Rams have faced the 12th most-difficult strength of schedule so far this season.

Seattle Seahawks

As of publication, the Seahawks are the No. 2 Super Bowl contender on Kalshi with a price of 12 cents per contract

While Seattle has advanced metrics that rival the Rams on both sides of the ball, there’s not quite as much confidence in the market in the Seahawks’ leadership. Seattle brought in quarterback Sam Darnold this offseason and he’s had a very strong campaign so far this year. However, Kalshi traders no doubt remember Darnold’s regular-season success fading with the Vikings in 2024. Seattle also has an inexperienced head coach in Mike Macdonald. He’s very well-respected but is in just his second year as a head coach.

Still, the Seahawks are a force to be reckoned with and could end up securing a first-round bye in the NFC. Since Week 6, the Seahawks have the No. 1 EPA-per-play defense in the NFL.

Buffalo Bills

While the Bills are unlikely to even win their own division, they’re still the AFC’s most likely Super Bowl winner according to Kalshi. They are currently priced at 10 cents per contract to win the Super Bowl.

The Bills have arguably the best regular-season quarterback in the NFL in Josh Allen. While he’s been unable to get past Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs, that may not be an issue this year as the Chiefs are currently expected to miss the playoffs (19% on Kalshi).

The Bills are closing in on their 7th straight season of 10+ wins in the regular season. Statistically, the Bills have a borderline-elite offense (5th in EPA-per-play) and a mediocre defense (16th in EPA-per-play).

Buffalo’s main culprit this season has been rushing defense. It ranks 28th in the NFL in EPA-per-rush allowed. Fortunately for the Bills, pass defense is regarded as more important than rushing defense and they rank 7th in that category entering this weekend.

The post Philip Rivers, 44, set to join Colts practice squad appeared first on Saturday Down South.

]]>
Philip Rivers is coming back to play more football at age 44, because he doesn’t feel he’s quite done yet and because he knows the Indianapolis Colts need help right now at the position.

The former NC State star retired following the 2020 COVID season, which he ironically spent with the Colts after starring for the San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers from 2004-19. Now, he’s going to give it another go with the Colts, signing with the team’s practice squad on Tuesday afternoon after a workout with Indianapolis on Monday night.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported sources that confirmed Rivers was indeed returning to play football despite having been retired since that 2020 season and despite being a grandfather. Rivers has been coaching high school football in Alabama since 2021, but he saw an opportunity with the last franchise he played for and wants to see if he can help the Colts’ suddenly-dire quarterback situation.

The Colts are still firmly in playoff contention in the AFC at 8-5 despite a recent slide, but they are really banged up right now behind center, with the latest domino to fall being previous starter Daniel Jones, who suffered a torn Achilles on Sunday and is done for the season. Riley Leonard, who came in for Jones in Sunday’s loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, also was injured, suffering a knee injury, and his availability for this week’s game against the Seattle Seahawks is in doubt.

With all of that drama circulating, Rivers doesn’t seem so far away from actually seeing the field this season. The No. 4 overall pick of the 2004 draft also has a deep connection with Colts head coach Shane Steichen, who was Rivers’ position coach and offensive coordinator during his dominant days with the Chargers.

Interestingly, if Rivers eventually signs with the Colts’ active roster, his Hall of Fame clock resets to 5 years, so his wait to be inducted into Canton would be a lot longer.

Philip Rivers hasn’t played in the NFL since the 2020-21 season. However, the 44-year-old quarterback is reportedly looking to come out of retirement for the last team he played for.

The 8-time Pro Bowler is going to work out for the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday for a spot on their practice squad, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

This comes after Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending torn Achilles in the Colts’ loss on Sunday vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars. Riley Leonard, who replaced Jones, is reportedly hampered with a strained knee ligament, which is making him week-to-week and leaves his status unknown for this week’s game vs. the Seattle Seahawks.

The highly decorated Rivers is sixth all-time in NFL history in passing yards (63,440), trailing only Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Brett Favre and Ben Roethlisberger. Rivers is also sixth in NFL history in touchdown passes (421), trailing just Brady, Brees, Manning, Aaron Rodgers and Favre.

In River’s final NFL season, he amassed 4,169 passing yards and 24 touchdowns with 11 interceptions en route to the Colts having an 11-5 record. Rivers spent the first 16 seasons of his career with the Chargers, first in San Diego (2004-2016) and then in Los Angeles (2017-2019).

The New York Jets announced the day before their Week 14 home game against the AFC East rival Miami Dolphins that they’ve signed former Mizzou quarterback Brady Cook to their active roster.

Cook is being elevated to the active roster for the third time and will be just 1 play away from seeing action against the Dolphins on Sunday. That’s because Cook will be the Jets’ backup behind Tyrod Taylor. Cook is the beneficiary of circumstance, as previous Jets starting QB Justin Fields, who was Taylor’s backup the past 2 games, experienced knee soreness during Wednesday’s practice, then was limited on Thursday before being ruled out on Friday.

That has given Cook another chance on New York’s active roster, and if anything happens to Taylor on Sunday, Cook will get his shot.

After throwing for an astounding 9,008 yards and 49 touchdowns while rushing for 1,209 yards and 20 TDs over 5 seasons at Mizzou between 2020-2024, Cook went undrafted, leaving his potential NFL career in peril.

But Cook got a chance with the Jets this past offseason, signing with the team on May 9, and after being added to the practice squad on Aug. 27 Cook will be suiting up on Sunday at MetLife Stadium as New York’s backup quarterback.

The St. Louis native will be waiting on the sideline for that possible shot to get on the field and launch his NFL career.

There are field goal misses and then there’s what happened to Younghoe Koo and the New York Giants on Monday night.

In the 2nd quarter of Monday’s game between the Giants and New England Patriots, the Giants put out the field goal team for a 47-yard attempt in hopes of cutting the deficit to 17-10. A field goal, though, was never attempted. Koo completely missed the ball.

Instead of a field goal attempt, the holder was sacked near midfield for a turnover on downs.

Things did not get much better for the Giants. They lost the game to the Patriots, 33-15.

Koo, 31, is a veteran kicker. He began his career with the Los Angeles Chargers. Koo is best known for his multiple seasons with the Atlanta Falcons (2019-25). He was the NFL’s scoring co-leader in 2020 and made the Pro Bowl that season.

The Giants are on a bye in Week 14 and will try to end the 7-game losing skid in Week 15 against the Washington Commanders.

In the middle of all the crazy news coming out of the college football world on Sunday, the NFL also saw history made on its gridiron by a former SEC gunslinger.

As noted by ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, former Georgia Bulldogs standout and current LA Rams signal caller Matthew Stafford tossed his 28th consecutive touchdown without throwing an interception on Sunday afternoon against the Carolina Panthers, which is an NFL record.

Now in his 17th NFL season, Stafford has continued to put up eye-popping stats, entering Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers with a league-leading 30 touchdown passes and only 2 interceptions.

This stellar performance has helped guide the Rams to a 9-2 record and first-place position in the NFC West, and it has also put Stafford in the driver’s seat to take home his first-ever NFL MVP award.

The former first overall pick out of Georgia also made some more history earlier in the season, becoming just the ninth quarterback in NFL history to cross the 400 career passing TD threshold.

Stafford may be 37, but he’s playing some of the best football of his entire career, and it’s translating to success for his team as they chase down another Super Bowl win.

The Detroit Lions made headlines earlier in the week when they announced that recently retired All-Pro center and former Arkansas Razorbacks standout Frank Ragnow had decided to come out of retirement and rejoin the team.

Ragnow, who spent 7 seasons as the anchor of the Lions’ offensive line, retired suddenly last offseason to the surprise of many, as he appeared to be firmly in the middle of his prime coming off 3 straight Pro Bowl selections.

It looked like Ragnow was ready to make his return to the pro ranks this week, but that unfortunately doesn’t appear to be in the cards for either him or the Lions, as the team put out a statement on X that he had failed his physical due to a grade 3 hamstring strain, ruling out any potential return this season.

Ragnow was a member of the Razorbacks from 2014-2017, earning first-team All-SEC and All-American honors during his junior and senior seasons with the Hogs. He was then drafted by Detroit with the 20th pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, becoming an immediate impact player for the Lions as a rookie.

He evolved into one of the best offensive linemen in the league at the turn of the 2020s, earning multiple second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections before his abrupt retirement.

Former LSU great and current Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow made his return to the NFL after a turf toe injury on Thanksgiving night and was quick to point out why the moment was special to him.

“I’ve always wanted to play on Thanksgiving night,” Burrow said to NBC after Cincinnati’s 32-14 win against the Baltimore Ravens. “I am most grateful to all the people in my life that helped me through this last 10 weeks. It certainly wasn’t easy for me and all the things I have been through in my career so far.

“I’ve got people that just want the best for me and work really hard to put me in great position to go and play well and get back on the field. Physical therapists, trainers, doctors… I’ve certainly had my fair share of these (injuries), and it is just fun to be back out here on the field with the guys and experiencing this. It hasn’t been an easy thing to go through, but this moment makes everything worth it.”

Burrow missed 9 Bengals games dealing with the turf toe injury sustained Sept. 14 in a game against the Jaguars.

He finished 24-of-46 passing for 261 yards, 2 touchdowns, and no interceptions while playing with a plate in his left shoe. Burrow helped the Bengals (4-8) snap a 4-game losing streak and pick up the team’s first win over Baltimore (6-6) since the 2022 postseason.

Hudsonville, Michigan native Isaac TeSlaa is living the dream playing for the Detroit Lions. On Thanksgiving, the former Arkansas wide receiver finally snagged a touchdown at home.

TeSlaa’s Thursday touchdown grab wasn’t the first of his career, but it may be one he remembers more than others. It’s the first the hometown wideout caught a TD in the Lions’ home stadium, Ford Field. In the 3rd quarter, Detroit QB Jared Godd found TeSlaa open in the end zone and the rookie wide receiver made an impressive grab to help Detroit cut the Green Bay lead to 1 score.

TeSlaa has had quite the journey to playing for his hometown NFL team. He began his college football career at Hillsdale College in 2020. After a standout 2022 season, he transferred to Arkansas ahead of the 2023 campaign.

At Arkansas, TeSlaa played for 2 seasons. He was the Razorbacks’ second-leading receiver in 2023, recording 34 catches for 351 yards and 2 touchdowns. In 2024, he posted 28 catches for 545 yards and 3 TDs. While those numbers weren’t particularly head-turning, the Lions saw something they liked and traded up to select TeSlaa with the No. 70 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

TeSlaa entered the game with 4 catches for 65 yards and 2 TDs on the year. His previous scores came in road games at Green Bay and Cincinnati.

Since TeSlaa’s score, Green Bay has scored again to widen its lead to 31-21. We’ll see if the Lions look TeSlaa’s way again.

Former Alabama WR Jameson Williams has a way of making fans and commentators ask, “How did he do that?”

One of those moments came in the first half of Thursday’s Thanksgiving game between the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. Williams caught a Jared Goff pass behind the line of scrimmage, spun his way out of a tackle, and quickly scooted into the end zone for a 22-yard TD reception.

It was part of an explosive first half for Williams. In the first 2 quarters, he caught 3 of his 5 targets for 69 yards and the touchdown. The Lions may need more of that, as they trailed the Packers 17-14 at the half in Detroit.

Williams entered the game with 31 catches for 562 yards and 5 touchdowns. It’s been a bit of an unpredictable year for Williams. In Week 12, he had zero catches. He’s had multiple triple-digit outings on the year, however.

A first-team All-American and All-SEC selection in 2021 at Alabama, Williams is in his fourth professional season, all with Detroit. He was selected No. 12 overall by the Lions in the 2022 NFL Draft.

This year’s Thanksgiving NFL slate is loaded with great games.

The Packers and Lions will get started with a 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Thursday afternoon. That contest will be followed up with Chiefs-Cowboys in Dallas. For the nightcap, fans will be treated to an AFC North battle between the Bengals and Ravens in Baltimore.

Thanksgiving NFL predictions

Here are 3 NFL picks for this year’s Thanksgiving slate:

Jordan Love to throw multiple TD passes

The Lions have not been good against good teams this season. They’ve lost to the Eagles and Vikings this month. Earlier in the year, they lost to the Chiefs and Packers. Their best wins of the year came in Weeks 1 and 2 when they beat the Bears and Ravens. Since then, Detroit has just 1 win against a team with a record better than .500 entering Week 13 (6-5 Tampa Bay). Detroit has a mediocre pass defense — it ranks 17th in dropback EPA this season. Conversely, the Packers rank No. 1 in the NFL in offensive dropback EPA. I think Jordan Love will have a big game in Detroit on Sunday and should be able to find the end zone multiple times.

Pick: Jordan Love over 1.5 touchdown passes (-112 on DraftKings)

Chiefs to exploit rest advantage vs. Cowboys

The Cowboys will be playing their third game in 11 days on Thanksgiving. Like the Chiefs, they also played on Sunday in Week 12. But Dallas also played on Monday Night Football in Week 11, meaning this will be its second consecutive short week. To some extent, that small rest advantage for the Chiefs is already priced in to the line. But I do think there’s a higher probability than normal that Dallas could break down in this spot. Even with the Cowboys’ trade deadline acquisitions and back-to-back wins, Dallas’s defense over the last couple of weeks has turned in mediocre advanced numbers. It’s also worth noting that starting left tackle Tyler Guyton is likely to miss the game due to injury. I like Kansas City to win the second half.

Pick: Chiefs -1 in second half (-110 on bet365)

Not in a legal betting state? You can still get in on the action with Kalshi, a prediction market that’s legal in all 50 US States! Here’s a look a the Kalshi market for Chiefs vs. Cowboys:

Ravens, Bengals to play an offense-heavy game

The Bengals have arguably the worst defense in the NFL, so a Cincinnati total under 52 is certainly worth considering. Last week’s games against the Patriots ended with 46 total points, but that score easily could have been much higher (those teams settled for a combined 6 field goals due to poor third-down outcomes). Prior to that, all 4 of Cincinnati’s previous games flew over this number. Plus, Joe Burrow is expected to return from injury this week which should give a big boost to the Bengals’ offense. Baltimore has won 5 straight games entering this matchup but here’s the list of quarterbacks it has faced over that span: Caleb Williams, Tua Tagovailoa, JJ McCarthy, Dillon Gabriel/Shedeur Sanders and Tyrod Taylor. I expect Burrow will be able to put significant pressure on this Baltimore defense and we’ll see plenty of points in both directions to clear this number.

Pick: Ravens vs. Bengals over 51.5 total points (-110 on BetMGM)

Former Arkansas All-American and All-Pro NFL center Frank Ragnow is officially over retirement.

Reports surfaced on Wednesday that Ragnow, who announced his retirement last June to “prioritize my health and my family’s future,” was making his return to the NFL. Ragnow will rejoin the Detroit Lions. The organization confirmed his return in a social media post.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Wednesday was the deadline for the 4-time Pro-Bowl center to come out of retirement and be eligible for this season. If a player is on a club’s reserve-retired list, he must be reinstated before his Week 13 game. Since the Lions play on Thanksgiving, that meant Wednesday was their deadline.

The Lions drafted Ragnow with the 20th overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft out of Arkansas, and he quickly established himself as one of the best centers in the NFL. In only 7 seasons, he earned four Pro Bowl nods and 3 second-team All-Pro selections.

One of the reasons Ragnow retired in the first place was that he had had injury issues throughout his career. He only played in 4 games in 2021 after suffering a season-ending torn plantar plate in his left foot. Then, he dealt with injuries to his toe, knee, and ankle in 2023.

Ragnow rejoins a Lions team that finds itself in one of the hottest-contested divisional races in the league. Detroit is third in the NFC North, sitting at 7-4. Green Bay, whom Detroit faces on Thanksgiving Day, is 7-3-1 on the season while the Chicago Bears lead the division with an 8-3 record.

Ian Rapoport revealed that former LSU and current Patriots left tackle Will Campbell is believed to have suffered an MCL sprain. He will have an MRI on his knee to determine the severity of his injury.

According to Rapoport, he is a candidate for the injured reserve list, with the hope that Campbell can return for the playoffs. The New England Patriots are currently 10-2 and just got a win over the Cincinnati Bengals. They lead their division by 2 games in the loss column over the Buffalo Bills and currently have the best record in the AFC.

Campbell has been a standout for the Patriots in his rookie season. According to Pro Football Focus, Campbell has allowed 5 sacks and 25 total pressures.

Campbell played 3 seasons with LSU and was a consensus All-American in his junior season. There were some concerns come combine time with Campbell’s measurements, but the Patriots still selected Campbell with the 4th overall pick.

It’s safe to say the Patriots were smart not to listen to many who claimed Campbell had too short of arms to be a dominant tackle in the NFL.

New England is having quite the season and will look to steady the ship until Campbell returns to the offensive line.

Following their loss to the Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders head coach Pete Carroll has announced that he has fired Chip Kelly as offensive coordinator.

Kelly signed a 3-year deal worth around $6 million per season in February to become the Raiders’ OC, but after only 11 games, the Raiders are heading in a different direction. The Raiders currently have the third-worst offense in terms of yards per game, ahead of only the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns. They rank second-to-last in terms of rushing yards per game and second-to-last in terms of points scored per game.

Kelly, who left his position as OC at Ohio State for the same position with the Raiders, will now be looking for a new job.

Kelly had this to say after it was announced he was fired from the Raiders:

Kelly has bounced around quite a bit since his days as head coach of the Oregon Ducks. Kelly left in 2013 for his first NFL stint as the head coach of the Eagles. Kelly was fired before the end of his third season and became the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers in 2016. This only lasted a season before Kelly was fired and went back to college football.

Kelly then took a year off before becoming the head coach of the UCLA Bruins. He was there for 6 seasons before becoming the offensive coordinator at Ohio State in 2024. In his lone season at Ohio State, the Buckeyes won the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Shedeur Sanders had a memorable afternoon in Las Vegas for the Cleveland Browns.

The former Colorado star quarterback and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders finally made his name on the NFL level for all the right reasons. It was Sanders’ first career NFL start after he struggled mightily last week in relief in a loss to the Baltimore Ravens. That was history in itself for Sanders.

But there was a lot more. Sanders tossed his first career NFL touchdown pass midway through the 4th quarter, with it coming on a 66-yard completion to running back Dylan Sampson, a fellow rookie and former Tennessee star.

Sampson did most of the work on the historic touchdown, catching the pass out of the backfield and going the distance to give the Browns a commanding 24-3 lead with 8:18 remaining in the game. Cleveland rolled to a 24-10 upset victory over the Raiders to improve to 3-8, so Sanders’s efforts were rewarded with a win.

Sanders was by no means perfect on Sunday, completing 11 of 20 passes for 209 yards with that 1 touchdown and 1 interception.

But he started his first career NFL game, and after what he’s been through since draft weekend, Sunday was finally an afternoon to celebrate for the high-profile rookie.

Dak Prescott has always had a connection with Tony Romo after succeeding Romo as the Dallas Cowboys’ starting quarterback in 2016.

Now, they’re connected in a different way, because the former Mississippi State star passed Romo on Sunday to become the Cowboys’ all-time leader in passing yards. Prescott broke Romo’s record on a 9-yard pass to George Pickens in the 3rd quarter of Sunday’s game against the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles.

The 32-year-old Louisiana native who went on to play in Starkville from 2011 to 2015 is now a part of Cowboys history, with likely many seasons to come in Dallas to pile on more passing yards and strength his record-breaking number.

The Cowboys’ social media account celebrated Prescott making history with this post:

Romo finished his career with the Cowboys with 34,183 yards passing. Troy Aikman is 3rd on Dallas’s all-time passing yards list, now behind Prescott and Romo, in that order.

Roger Staubach is 4th on the illustrious list, with Danny White 5th.

Prescott was a first-team All-SEC selection at Mississippi State in 2014 and 2015, before the Cowboys took him in the 4th round of the 2016 NFL Draft. A decade later, Prescott has etched his name in the prestigious Dallas record books.

Former Ole Miss stud defensive lineman Walter Nolen didn’t take long in his new life as an Arizona Cardinal to make a big impact.

In Week 12 of his rookie season in Arizona, the guy who once terrorized backfields in the SEC was doing it at the NFL level. During Sunday’s home game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, a play that started innocently ended with Nolen celebrating in the end zone, of all places.

Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence dropped back to pass deep in his own territory with the Cardinals down 7-0 and in need of a spark with nothing on the scoreboard late in the first quarter. Arizona got that spark from the most unlikely of places and the most unlikely of players, because 6-foot-4, 300-pound guys aren’t supposed to score touchdowns, in the SEC or in the NFL.

But that’s exactly what happened on Sunday with 2:26 left in that sluggish first quarter when Nolen recovered a strip sack of Lawrence, the former Clemson star, and barreled into the end zone to tie the game at 7-7.

Here is the play that Nolen will likely never forget:

Arizona is languishing this season at 3-7, so it needs victories in addition to big plays like the one Nolen provided. Nolen was a consensus All-American and first-team All-SEC selection at Ole Miss last year, but his collegiate journey began with 2 seasons at Texas A&M in 2022 and 2023.

He was the 16th overall pick by the Cardinals in the 2025 draft, so Arizona obviously had grand hopes for what Nolen could provide. Surely, the Cardinals were happy with their investment during Nolen’s unlikely touchdown rumble on Sunday.

The Green Bay Packers have revealed the final status of star tailback Josh Jacobs for the team’s divisional clash with the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

The 27-year-old Alabama product had been dealing with a knee injury leading into this game, and his status was in question all week.

Earlier Sunday, NFL Network reported that Jacobs will be deemed inactive for the Packers’ date with the Vikings. This will be the first game Jacobs has missed this season despite him battling multiple ailments already.

Jacobs has enjoyed a strong second year in Green Bay after being traded from the Las Vegas Raiders prior to the 2024 campaign. The former Bama back has racked up 648 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns to go along with 236 receiving yards, although he has yet to eclipse the 100-yard mark in a game this season.

With the Packers also visiting the Lions on Thanksgiving Day, the organization may have opted for caution in hopes that Jacobs will be ready for that contest.

Backup tailback Emmanuel Wilson, a 26-year-old out of Fort Valley College, is expected to take over the bulk of the carries in Green Bay’s backfield.

The Packers and Vikings kick off at 1 p.m. ET, with the game being broadcast by FOX.

The post Joe Burrow trending toward return to Bengals lineup in Week 12 appeared first on Saturday Down South.

The Cincinnati Bengals have been dealing with quarterback issues most of the season, thanks to the fact that Joe Burrow got turf toe and was injured in the second game of the season. The case of turf toe forced the Bengals to put Burrow on Injured Reserve. They followed their 2-0 start with Burrow with a 1-7 record since his injury.

However, he has since been activated, and his practice window has been opened.

This week, the Bengals are playing the Patriots, and after Burrow was a limited practice participant last week before the Steelers game, he has been a full participant in two straight practices.

It is worth noting that head coach Zac Taylor and the Bengals have not confirmed whether Burrow will play this weekend. Still, based on the injury report and the fact that he has been listed as a full participant, it should help Bengals fans get excited to see him come back for the homestretch of the NFL season.

The former LSU all-time great quarterback would be an instant boost for the Bengals and could help them cling to their small postseason hopes.

Burrow is a difference-maker and has been throughout his football career. He helped LSU reach heights the program had never seen in 2019, winning the Heisman Trophy and leading LSU to the national title. The Tigers won a program-record 15 games and capped their fourth-ever unbeaten season.

When healthy, he has been a top-5 quarterback in the NFL. The Bengals are currently a 6-point underdog (via BetMGM) against the 9-2 Patriots in Week 12. That game kicks off at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday.

The National Football League suspended former LSU star receiver Ja’Marr Chase for 1 game without pay Monday after determining that Chase spat at Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Jalen Ramsey with a little more than 12 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter of the Steelers’ 34-12 Week 11 victory.

Chase denied spitting on Ramsey, but the league office determined there was “sufficient” video evidence to warrant the suspension:

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that Chase is appealing the suspension – one that would be heard and ruled upon by either Derrick Brooks, Ramon Foster, or Jordy Nelson, the hearing officers jointly appointed by the NFL and NFL Players Association.

If the suspension is upheld, Chase would miss his team’s upcoming game against the New England Patriots in Week 12. Schefter reported that the suspension would cost Chase his weekly paycheck of $448,333 along with a $58,823 per game active bonus he would be forfeiting.

Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter spit on Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott before the first play from scrimmage in Week 1, prompting Carter’s ejection. The NFL viewed that as a 1-game suspension.

Chase starred at LSU during the Tigers’ run to the 2020 national championship – a season in which he won the Biletnikoff Award for the country’s top collegiate receiver.

Former Oklahoma tight end Mark Andrews had himself quite the day on Sunday as he became the all-time leader in receiving yards for the Baltimore Ravens.

It took 6 minutes and only one catch for 11 yards this Sunday for Andrews to become the Ravens’ all-time leader in receiving yards with 5,784 yards. Andrews passed former Michigan State wide receiver Derrick Mason as the all-time leader.

https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1990172576732397768

However, this was not the end of the day for Andrews, who later rushed in a touchdown that gave the Ravens a 23-16 lead over the Cleveland Browns.

Andrews took a 4th and 1 run 35 yards to the house to break the tie between the Ravens and the Browns with just a little over 2:30 left in the game.

Andrews would finish the day with 3 receptions for 32 yards and 1 rush for 35 yards and a touchdown. Andrews’ rushing touchdown would give the Ravens the lead, and they would not lose it as they beat the Browns 23-16.

Andrews was a tight end for Oklahoma from 2014 to 2017. In his 2017 season, Andrews totaled 62 receptions for 958 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was a consensus All-American and was a big reason why Baker Mayfield was able to win the Heisman.

Shedeur Sanders’ much-anticipated NFL debut turned into a dud.

When starting quarterback Dillon Gabriel suffered a concussion, in came Sanders to try to rescue the Cleveland Browns on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. The former Colorado star and son of NFL legend Deion Sanders entered the game with 12:43 left in the 3rd quarter, with the Browns looking for a spark in Gabriel’s absence.

But it didn’t go well for Sanders, the rookie who infamously had to wait until the 5th round and 144th overall pick to hear his name called at the draft by the Browns. Sanders’ first chance to prove everybody wrong came in mid-November of his rookie season in front of the home fans, but things went horribly for Sanders and the Browns.

First, there was Sanders himself, who completed just 4 of 16 passes for 47 yards, with 0 touchdowns and 1 interception. He was harassed by the Ravens’ defense while struggling, too, being sacked twice while finishing with a 13.5 passer rating.

To add insult to injury, the Browns lost the game in crushing fashion, with Baltimore tight end Mark Andrews scoring the go-ahead touchdown with 2:31 left in the 23-16 comeback victory. So, not only did Sanders not play well at all, his team didn’t get the win either, falling to 2-8 on the season.

Sanders had 1 final chance to save the day for himself and the Browns after Andrews’ go-ahead score. Things began well, too, with Sanders completing a 25-yard pass on the first play of the drive to get Cleveland to the Baltimore 25-yard line. The tying score was well within reach, but things stalled from there, and Sanders’ last pass on 4th-and-5 fell short of the target.

Before the injury, Gabriel, the former star at Oregon, went 7 of 10 for 68 yards with a passer rating of 88.8.

Ja’Marr Chase was believed to have spit on Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Jalen Ramsey during the Cincinnati Bengals’ 34-12 loss on Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh, and ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter reported afterward that the league will be “reviewing the incident.”

Chase, a former star wideout at LSU between 2018-2020, said he did not spit on Ramsey, according to a report by the Cincinnati Enquirer. Whether Chase spit on Ramsey or not, officials didn’t see the apparent incident on the field in the heat of the moment.

Ramsey, a former standout at Florida State, said that he hit Chase after being spit on by Chase. Because the officials did not see Chase spit on Ramsey, they only ejected Ramsey from the game and not Chase.

But after the victory, Ramsey was adamant with reporters that Chase did indeed spit on him as the 2 players fought with each other. Ramsey paid the worst price on Sunday, being ejected for throwing a punch at Chase in the 4th quarter. Cincinnati also got a first down because of Ramsey’s penalty.

The bad blood was building between the 2 players on these 2 AFC North rival teams. Chase and Ramsey were separated from each other after locking horns on the previous play, with both players being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

Bryce Young had a record-breaking day for the Carolina Panthers, and it came at the expense of a former bitter SEC rival.

The former Alabama star quarterback threw for 448 yards on Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, breaking Cam Newton’s single-game team passing yards record in the process. You might remember that Newton played at and starred at Auburn, so even though Young and Newton played in the SEC at different times, that Alabama-Auburn rivalry knows no bounds when it comes to time periods.

Newton’s previous Panthers passing yards record was 432 yards, which he set in 2011 during his prolific rookie season in Carolina. Newton was named NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after that magical 2011 season, which included that very prolific day when he threw for those 432 yards.

Well, records are made to be broken, and 14 years later that single-game mark was broken by a former Alabama quarterback, of all people. Even better for Young, his special performance on Sunday came in a thrilling, 30-27 overtime victory in Atlanta that lifted the Panthers to 6-5.

Young went 31 of 45 on Sunday with 3 touchdown passes and 0 interceptions, so those record-breaking passing yards came during an efficient performance that produced a very important victory for Carolina.

After the game, Young spoke to reporters about what it meant for him to break Newton’s long-standing record, highlighting how much respect he has for what Newton accomplished during his career.

Young is in his 3rd season in Carolina after playing at Alabama from 2020-22. He captured the Heisman Trophy during the 2021 season.

Former Alabama star wideout Calvin Ridley will miss the rest of the season for the Tennessee Titans after breaking his fibula in Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans.

Titans head coach Mike McCoy told reporters of Ridley’s season-ending diagnosis after Sunday’s game, which Tennessee lost, 16-13, on a last-second field goal. Ridley was carted off the field after suffering the injury midway through the 1st quarter on Sunday, and at that point his return to the game was questionable.

Ridley’s 2025 season was already marred by injury before Sunday’s season-ending blow. He was making his return to action on Sunday after missing over a month with a hamstring injury. But his return to the field was short-lived after catching 1 pass for 13 yards on Sunday. That 1 catch proved costly, as the fateful injury occurred seconds later.

It happened on the Titans’ first offensive play of Sunday’s game, when Ridley caught that 13-yard pass. Ridley was trying to get more yardage after the initial catch, but he was hit by 2 Houston defensive players. He apparently was injured so badly on the play that he couldn’t continue, and FOX cameras caught Ridley being carted off the field for further examination.

Ridley came into Sunday’s game with 16 catches for 290 yards in limited action this season because of injury. He failed to catch a touchdown pass this year, and now he faces a long rehab journey to be ready for the 2026 season.

He was a big-time weapon at Alabama from 2015-17, helping the Crimson Tide win national championships in 2015 and 2017. Ridley finished his Crimson Tide career with 224 catches for 2,781 yards and 19 touchdowns.

Calvin Ridley missed over a month with a hamstring injury. On Sunday, he returned to the field for the Tennessee Titans against the Houston Texans.

Unfortunately, he didn’t last long in this one. He suffered an apparent ankle injury midway through the first quarter. Here’s the video of when it happened:

Ridley was shown by FOX cameras being carted off to the locker room for further examination. His return to the game is questionable.

Before his initial injury, Ridley had made 35 catches for 290 yards. His best game came against the Arizona Cardinals, logging 10 catches for 131 yards.

In Week 6 against the Las Vegas Raiders, Ridley had one catch for 18 yards. He was forced to leave that one due to an ankle injury, though, missing the Titans’ next three games. Prior to his injury against the Texans, he had a single catch for 13 yards.

The former Alabama standout is in his second season with Tennessee. In 2024, he made 64 catches for 1,017 yards and 4 touchdowns.

The Titans entered Sunday’s game with a 1-8 record. They have lost their last four games against the Raiders, New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts, and the Los Angeles Chargets.

Former Alabama running back Brian Robinson Jr. Robinson started his NFL career in Washington, as the Commanders took him with the 98th pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. In each of his three seasons in Washington, he rushed for at least 733 yards, and finished with 15 rushing touchdowns.

He was traded to the San Francisco 49ers this off-season, and has rushed for 238 yards and two touchdowns in a complementary role of Christian McCaffrey.

In today’s college football, players are much more willing to transfer instead of having to sit for a couple years. However, Robinson said the fact that he had to do just that at Alabama helped him be able to handle what the NFL was all about.

“I came from a program in college where you have to wait your turn,” Robinson told reporters. “You don’t come in and start, even if you have the talent and ability…it’s rare to start Day 1,” Robinson Jr said, “It’s taught me to be patient, continue to stay down and work. When my time comes, I gotta be ready for it.”

He spent his college days in Tuscaloosa, where he won a national championship in both 2017 and 2020. He had to wait his time behind some other great running backs, but he got his time to shine in 2021 when he rushed for 1,343 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Being McCaffrey’s back-up can be a tough job, as he is one of the rare running backs in today’s NFL that is on the field for nearly every play. However, that experience in Tuscaloosa prepared him for this exact situation.

Travis Hunter’s 2025 season has come to an end. The Jacksonville Jaguars announced that the rookie had undergone surgery on his right knee, weeks after what was later revealed to be an LCL tear suffered in practice landed him on injured reserve.

Despite Hunter’s surgery, the Jaguars announced that Hunter’s knee hasn’t been damaged further beyond what happened on Oct. 30.

Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner, was the No. 2 overall pick out of Colorado. The Jaguars hoped that his unique two-way capability would help improve the fortunes of the franchise.

As a receiver, Hunter made 28 catches for 298 yards and a touchdown. That TD came on Oct. 19 against the Los Angeles Rams in London. As a defender, he was credited with 15 tackles and 3 passes defensed. With Hunter’s season shut down, he’ll now be able to focus on making a full recovery, with the goal of taking a larger role on the field with the Jaguars in 2026 and beyond.

The Jaguars, meanwhile, are well in the playoff chase with a 5-4 record. Despite an emotional 36-29 loss to the Texans, they project as the 7th seed in the AFC.

Jacksonville’s last playoff appearance was in the 2022 season, when they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs in the Divisional Round.

A second-team All-Pro selection and Pro Bowl in 2019, Hardman is best known for two stints with the Kansas City Chiefs from 2019-22 and 2023-24. He collected 3 Super Bowl rings in his time with the Chiefs (LIV, LVII and LVIII).

In between his stops in Kansas City, Hardman was a member of the New York Jets in 2023 before a trade back to the Chiefs. In 80 regular-season games, Hardman has 178 catches for 2,302 yards and 16 touchdowns. He has also logged 26 rushes for 190 yards and 3 scores.

The New York Giants lost to the Chicago Bears 24-20 in Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season. One day later, the Giants have decided to part ways with head coach Brian Daboll, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Daboll, the offensive coordinator for the 2017 national championship-winning Alabama Crimson Tide, went 20-40-1 as the Giants’ head coach. He led New York to just a 2-8 record this season.

New York’s decision to fire Daboll comes after yet another blown lead on the road. The Giants have led by double-digits in 4 different road contests this year, but are 0-4 in those games:

 • Week 2 at Dallas: Led 13-3 (Q2, 5:37), lost 40-37 (OT)
 • Week 5 at New Orleans: Led 14-3 (Q2, 13:01), lost 26-14
 • Week 7 at Denver: Led 26-8 (Q4, 5:18), lost 33-32
 • Week 10 at Chicago: Led 20-10 (Q4, 3:57), lost 24-20

Daboll entered the year on the hot seat, but appeared well on the way toward saving his job after inserting 2025 first-round pick Jaxson Dart — from Ole Miss — into the starting lineup. Dart has completed 62.7% of his passes (128/204) for 1,417 yards, 10 touchdowns and 3 interceptions in 9 games (7 starts) this year. He has added 317 yards and 7 touchdowns as a rusher.

With Daboll, Dart looked like the Giants’ next franchise quarterback. New York believes it needs a new voice in the locker room, though, to return to true contender status. Offensive coordinator Mike Kafka will serve as the team’s interim head coach for the remainder of the season. The Giants will host the Green Bay Packers in Week 12 (1 p.m. ET).

During Sunday’s matchup between the Lions and the Commanders, former Alabama DL Daron Payne punched Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown.

The former first-round pick, Payne, has been suspended 1 game for an act of unsportsmanlike conduct, according to Ian Rapoport. Payne has 30 total tackles on the year, with 12 of them being solo tackles. He also has 1 sack and 3.5 stuffs.

The Lions would go on to win the game 44-22, and St. Brown got the last laugh as he hauled in 5 receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown in the win.

Payne will be suspended for the Commanders’ game versus the Dolphins in Madrid on Nov. 16. He can appeal the NFL’s ruling; however, it is unlikely that Payne will see his suspension lifted.

The Commanders, who are already without their star quarterback Jayden Daniels, will likely be without their starting defensive lineman as they take on the Dolphins, who will be riding high coming off a 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills.

Both teams are 3-7 and will be looking to turn their season around with a win overseas.

Kickoff between the Commanders and Dolphins is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. ET on Sunday.

Former Alabama player Daron Payne and the Washington Commanders have had a frustrating season, and that continued on Sunday as they lost to the Detroit Lions by a score of 44-22.

For Payne, those frustrations boiled over during the game, as he threw a punch at Lions star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown. The officials saw it and they ejected him from the game.

Here’s a clip:

Ejection may not be the only punishment that Payne receives, as the NFL will surely take a look at this. The league has put an emphasis on taunting and unsportsmanlike penalties, and this type of play could easily turn into a suspension for Payne.

Payne has been in Washington since being drafted No. 13 in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Alabama. His best season came in 2022 when he had 64 tackles and 11.5 sacks.

It has been a frustrating year in Washington to say the least. Last season, the Commanders were one of the best stories in the NFL. Jayden Daniels had a spectacular rookie season, and he led the team to the NFC Championship game.

This year, he has had to deal with a ton of injuries and the team is now 3-7 on the year and would likely have to run the table to make it to the playoffs. While being frustrated is understandable, this is a moment that Payne will wish he made a different decision.

The Jacksonville Jaguars were well on their way to a win against the Houston Texans that would have moved the team to 6-3 on the season. They were up 29-10 in the fourth against a Texans team that was without star quarterback C.J. Stroud, who was out with a concussion from Week 9.

However, chaos ensued and the Texans took a 30-29 lead late in the fourth quarter. With the Jaguars trying to get a desperation Hail Mary, Trevor Lawrence was hit by former Alabama star Will Anderson Jr., and fumbled a ball that Texans defensive tackle Sheldon Rankins took it back for a touchdown as time expired.

This made the final score 36-29 Texans, and bettors who had the Jaguars at +1.5 were left in agony.

Parker Washington had a big game for the Jaguars. First, he scored on a 7-yard pass to give the Jaguars a 10-0 lead early. Then early in the second quarter, he took back a punt 73 yards to put the team up 17 points.

The Jaguars entered the day as the last team currently in the AFC playoff field, but missed a huge opportunity to create a little separation. In Week 11, they host the Los Angeles Chargers in a game with huge AFC playoff standings.

Former Georgia star quarterback Matthew Stafford has been a cool study in longevity at the NFL level, and Stafford showed another example of that on Sunday.

Stafford tossed his 400th career NFL touchdown pass in the 2nd quarter as he tried to lead his Los Angeles Rams to victory over the San Francisco 49ers. The visiting Rams were being rude guests on Sunday, as Stafford’s history-making 4-yard TD toss to Davis Allen gave Los Angeles a 21-0 lead against its NFC West rival.

Here is the touchdown pass that was yet another benchmark for the Super Bowl-winning QB:

Stafford led the Rams to that Super Bowl victory to end the 2021 season, which was his first year with the franchise. But he made his NFL name during a 12-year run with the Detroit Lions, who took him with the first overall pick of the 2009 draft out of Georgia.

He played at Georgia from 2006 to 2008, being named 2nd-team All-SEC and first-team All-American during his final season in Athens.

As Sunday showed, the Tampa native is still going strong at the NFL level all these years later, and Sunday provided another memorable moment for Stafford in his legendary football journey.

He’s 37 years old now, but Stafford is still adding accomplishments to his long list and trying to lead the Rams to another Super Bowl crown in 2025.

Jaxson Dart leaves Giants game due to concussion https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/news/nfl/jaxson-dart-leaves-giants-game-due-to-concussion/ Sun, 09 Nov 2025 21:09:49 +0000 https://www.saturdaydownsouth.com/?p=523867 Jaxson Dart was forced to walk gingerly off the field after being sandwiched by a handful of Bears with his helmet coming off.

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart has shown a tendency to utilize his legs throughout his young NFL career, which can be both beneficial and potentially damaging.

The latter result occurred Sunday afternoon, as while Dart was looking to escape the pocket against Chicago, a swarm of Bears surrounded him. Whilst attempting to evade, Dart’s helmet was partially pulled off, and he was brought to the ground while also taking several more hits.

Giants fans also noted that Dart made no movement or recognition that he had fumbled the ball, a sign that he was not fully cognizant of what was going on around him. The quarterback gingerly walked off the field and was taken to the locker room shortly after.

Later in the afternoon, ESPN’s Adam Schefter confirmed that Dart was ruled out of the game with a concussion.

The rookie signal-caller out of Ole Miss has impressed since taking over for Russel Wilson as the Giants’ starter earlier this year. Entering Sunday’s game, Dart had thrown for 1,175 yards, 10 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions while completing 62.3% of his passes. And as mentioned, Dart has used his legs quite a bit as well, having ran for 251 yards and 5 scores.

This was the second time Dart had undergone concussion protocols this season, with New York having already been fined for breaching that protocol once.

It’s time for Week 10 of the 2025 NFL season, which means 3 more bold predictions to consider for this NFL Sunday.

Last week, we went 1-2 with these plus-money bets. The Denver Broncos won outright against Houston as +110 underdog but that was our only winner of the weekend.

We’ll strive for a better Week 10.

NFL Week 10 bold predictions

Here are 3 plus-money bets to consider for this week:

Giants over Bears

I like the Giants to win outright against Chicago this weekend. The Bears have consistently found ways to lose games this season — and they were on track to do so again last weekend before a miracle long touchdown pass to Colston Loveland in the game’s final minute. Caleb Williams looked excellent last week, but I expect New York’s defense to offer a little more resistance than Cincinnati’s did. On the other side of the ball, the Giants offense ranks top-5 in the NFL in EPA-per-play since Week 6.

Pick: Giants money line +190 (via Fanatics)

Amon-Ra St. Brown 100+ receiving yards

The Commanders have one of the worst secondaries in the NFL and it’s been getting worse in recent weeks. Since the start of Week 7, they rank dead last in the NFL in EPA-per-drop-back allowed. Washington also has one of the most-targeted slot cornerbacks in the NFL this season in Mike Sainristil. Per PFF, he’s seen 42 slot targets this season and has allowed 32 catches for 362 yards on those attempts. His 1.78 yards per snap allowed out of the slot ranks next-to-last in the NFL among slot corners with at least 100 coverage snaps this season. Enter one of the NFL’s most prolific wide receivers: Amon-Ra St. Brown. Detroit gets creative with where he lines up, but he’s in the slot about half the time. I like his price to go over the century mark for the third time this season against a Washington defense that has neither the talent nor the motivation to stop him.

Pick: Amon-Ra St. Brown 100+ receiving yards (+145 on BetMGM)

Quinshon Judkins to score twice

The Jets are near the very bottom of the NFL when it comes to rushing defense. This looks like a great matchup for running back Quinshon Judkins, who has already amassed 20 red zone rush attempts so far this season. He’s turned 4 of those into touchdowns. The Browns aren’t great on offense, but they’ll be getting to face a Jets defense that was just gutted at the trade deadline. Among the players New York moved was defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, who is among the best run defenders in the NFL.

Pick: Quinshon Judkins 2+ TDs (+370 on DraftKings)

Former Florida QB Jeff Driskel is going back to a familiar spot. The Arizona Cardinals are bringing Driskel back as a practice squad player.

Arizona’s move comes as the club sends Kyler Murray to the injured list, keeping him out for at least 4 games. Driskel was with the Cardinals back in 2023, giving him familiarity with the system used by offensive coordinator Drew Petzing.

Driskel’s former Florida teammate Jacoby Brissett is leading the Cardinals in Murray’s absence. The two quarterbacks played for Will Muschamp’s Gator team in 2011 and ’12. Brissett transferred to NC State after the 2012 season. Driskel remained at Florida through the 2014 season.

After transferring to Lousiana Tech in 2015 for his final collegiate season, Driskel began his pro career in 2016. He has bounced around the league. In addition to the Cardinals, Driskel has also spent time with the San Francisco 49ers, Cincinnati Bengals, Detroit Lions, Denver Broncos, Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Washington Commanders and Las Vegas Raiders.

In his NFL career, Driskel has made 25 appearances, including 12 starts. He has completed 229-of-391 passes for 2,394 yards, 16 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Driskel last saw regular-season action with Washington in 2024 and was most recently a practice-squad QB with the Raiders.

The Denver Broncos will host the Las Vegas Raiders in an AFC West showdown on Thursday Night Football this week.

Denver currently leads the division and could make a run at beating out the Chiefs to win their first AFC West title since 2015. The Raiders are in their first season under head coach Pete Carroll and will bring a 2-game losing streak into this matchup.

Raiders vs. Broncos odds

Here’s what the up-to-the-minute betting odds look like for this contest:

Here’s what you should know about both teams before placing a bet on this game:

Raiders news and notes

 • The Raiders are 2-6 this season but are coming off of a competitive overtime loss to the Jaguars in Week 9. Vegas had one of its better offensive games of the season as it averaged 5.5 yards per play and Geno Smith threw 4 touchdown passes.
 • Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty has been a bit of a disappointment this season. The first-round pick is averaging just 3.9 yards per carry and has just 3 rushing touchdowns in 8 games.
 • However, a lot of Jeanty’s efficiency issues could be explained by a poor offensive line. Jeanty is tied for 8th in the NFL in rushing yards per attempt after contact, per PFF.
 • The Raiders’ passing game will be a bit of a mystery moving forward. Jakobi Meyers leads the team in targets with 49, but he was traded to the Jaguars this week.
 • Brock Bowers will likely have an even bigger role moving forward. Bowers is arguably the NFL’s best tight end and has 40 targets in just 5 games this season. He’s also coming off of the best game of his young career — 12 catches for 127 yards and 3 touchdowns.
 • Tre Tucker is a name that could see more attention from Smith in the passing game. Rookies like Jack Bech and Dont’e Thornton Jr. could also see more action, but Tucker leads the team in yards per route run (1.65) by a decent margin, per PFF.
 • The Raiders’ defense ranks 23rd in EPA-per-play allowed this season. Vegas is strongest against the run — 16th in rush defense EPA and 19th in rush defense success rate.

Broncos news

 • The Broncos are one of the NFL’s biggest surprises this season. They currently lead the AFC West with a 7-2 record and are coming off of a win in Houston last weekend.
 • Bo Nix is putting up very similar efficiency stats to what he did last season as a rookie. He has a TD% of 5.3%, an INT% of 1.9%, is averaging a little over 6 yards per attempt and has posted a 43% passing success rate. Those numbers are all very close to what they were a year ago.
 • Two areas where Nix has improved greatly: He now leads the league in sack rate at just 2.72%. Nix also leads all NFL quarterbacks in game-winning drives with 4 already this season (he had 3 all of last year).
 • Although RJ Harvey received some preseason hype, it’s been veteran JK Dobbins who gets the vast majority of the snaps and rushing usage in Denver’s backfield.
 • Troy Franklin and Courtland Sutton both have 60+ targets so far this season, although Sutton has been much more efficient when he catches the ball. Sutton averages 9.1 yards per target while Franklin is at 6.
 • Franklin has 12 red-zone targets this season, which is by far the most on the team. Sutton is second with 5. However, Franklin has just 3 red-zone touchdowns this season (and Sutton has zero).
 • Denver’s defense is elite. The Broncos rank 4th in EPA-per-play allowed this season.
 • Denver runs a very aggressive defensive system that results in lots of pressure on opposing quarterbacks. The Broncos are No. 2 in the NFL with a 28.8% pressure rate this season.
 • However, a key cog in the Broncos’ defense may not play on Thursday night. Cornerback Pat Surtain II, who won Defensive Player of the Year last season, missed last week’s game against Houston with an injury, hasn’t practiced this week.

Raiders vs. Broncos picks

I think Geno goes under this number. He had 39 last week, but that was an overtime game that had an unusual amount of scoring in the 4th quarter (31 points between the 2 teams). Before last week, he had gone under this total in 4 of his previous 5 games. Smith is also one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL against pressure. Among 34 quarterbacks with 50 drop backs this season, Smith ranks 30th in PFF’s passer grade. Against pressure, Smith is 35-of-70 for 400 yards Given Denver’s high-pressure defensive profile, I think the Raiders will have a more run-heavy game plan installed for this matchup.

Pick: Geno Smith under 31.5 pass attempts (-105 on Fanatics)

I think there’s value on Troy Franklin to find the end zone. As I wrote above, Franklin dominates Denver’s red-zone targets (he has 7 more than the next-closest Bronco through Week 9). And yet, Franklin’s anytime TD price is well behind Courtland Sutton’s (+145) and nearly equal to RJ Harvey’s (+200). At 6-3, Franklin has the size to be an excellent red zone threat and I think he will find the end zone again on Thursday night against a bad Vegas secondary.

Pick: Troy Franklin anytime TD (+190 on BetMGM)

The Dallas Cowboys woke up to devastating news on Thursday morning, as the team officially announced that second-year defensive end Marshawn Kneeland has tragically passed away at the age of 24.

A second-round pick out of Western Michigan, the Cowboys selected Kneeland with the 56th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft after a stellar collegiate career with the Broncos.

Across his 5 seasons at Western Michigan from 2019-2023, Kneeland had 148 tackles, 27.5 tackles for loss, and 13 sacks, and was viewed as one of the best pass rushers available coming out in the 2024 draft cycle.

After appearing in 11 games as a rookie in 2024, Kneeland was starting to see his role in the Cowboys’ defense increase in 2025, appearing in all 7 games for the team and making 3 starts.

His most recent appearance came this past Monday against the Arizona Cardinals, where he scored his first career touchdown on a blocked punt recovery during Monday Night Football.

The official cause of Kneeland’s passing has yet to be announced, but he is survived by his girlfriend Catalina, his mother Wendy, father Shawn, and the rest of his extended family.
