South Carolina didn’t have the type of season that coach Shane Beamer had hoped for in 2025, but he has already come out and guaranteed that the Gamecocks will be in the CFP conversation during the 2026 season.

To do that, Beamer has to field a team that is going to be able to compete. The first big domino was that star quarterback LaNorris Sellers is reportedly close to come back to South Carolina. Then on Sunday, tight end Brady Hunt announced that he would be back next year after being given another season of eligibility.

Hunt started his college year at Ball State in 2022, but he transferred to South Carolina after that season. He missed the entire 2023 season due to an ankle injury. This past season, he had 21 catches for 168 yards. He has also emerged as a short-yardage situational runner, as he rushed the ball three times this year for only three yards, but he scored on two of those carries.

With Sellers coming back, the Gamecocks have one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football. Putting talented players around him at the skilled positions is key, and getting a tight end back like Hunt is a good start for Beamer.

Luke Altmyer put together a fantastic career during his time as the quarterback at Illinois. He has the highest completion percentage for a career (64.5%), while also ranking second in career passing touchdowns (56) and third in wins (22).

In today’s college football, bowl games don’t have quite the same hype that they used. Many teams and players across the country are opting out of bowl games, but Altmyer announced on social media that he would be playing in the game against the Volunteers.

Altmyer started his career at Ole Miss in 2021, but he attempted only 54 passes in his first two seasons and transferred to Illinois in 2023. He had a solid campaign, but his breakout year came in 2024 when he threw for 2,717 yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions.

He led Illinois to a 10-win season last year, as the Fighting Illini’ knocked off South Carolina in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl last year.

With the college football off-season schedule so weird, teams and players have to make decisions when it comes to playing in these games. Many teams would rather focus on getting a head start in 2026, while the players have to consider entering the transfer portal.

For Illini fans who have become huge fans of Altmyer over the last couple of seasons, they get one more final opportunity to watch him when Illinois and Tennessee square off on Dec. 30.

Nate Oats and the Alabama Crimson Tide lost to Arizona by a score of 96-75 on Saturday to fall to 7-3 on the season. The game was close to start the second half, but the Wildcats took complete control and ran away with the game.

The Crimson Tide’s three losses this year have been to Purdue, Gonzaga and now Arizona. All three of those teams look like they are capable of making a run to the Final Four. In the loss to the Bulldogs, they were out-rebounded 48-36. Rebounding was once again a big issue against a huge Wildcats team, as the Crimson Tide was out-rebounded 52-32.

After the game, Oats talked about the team not having chance against the best teams if it won’t rebound.

“If we’re not gonna rebound, we’re gonna lose — I mean, we’ve done this twice where we’ve just got demolished on the glass,” Oats told reporters. “We really won’t have a shot to win these games.” “We chart the blue collar points. They destroyed us, plus-33 on that stuff. … The four-minute wars on the blue collar, they kind of annihilated us on all the effort stuff. When you get beat that bad on the effort stuff, you deserve to lose by 20, and that’s what happened tonight.”

It was especially bad on the offensive glass, where the Wildcats had a 22-3 advantage. That helped give the Wildcats a 44-20 advantage in the points in the paint. Guard Labaron Philon Jr. did his part on the glass, as he finished with a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The front-court of Aiden Sherrell (5) and Taylor Bol Bowen (4) combined for only nine. Arizona backup big Tobe Awaka had 15 rebounds himself off the bench, including seven offensive.

SEC play is just around the corner, and Oats knows how imperative it is going to be for the team to start rebounding better.

High school football in Florida is regarded as some of the best in the country, and that was on display on Saturday in a state championship matchup between Lake Mary and Vero Beach in the FHSAA Class 7A state championship.

Lake Mary was down to one final play in the game, trailing by a score of 27-21 with 12 seconds remaining in the game. Quarterback Noah Grubbs threw a pass to the endzone that was deflected, but caught by Barrett Schultz just inside the five-yard line. He gave the ball to teammate Tavarius Brundidge Jr., who was able to do the rest and fight for the touchdown to pull the stunning comeback in the game.

With just over two minutes left, Grubbs threw an interception trailing by eight points. Vero Beach ran a lot of the timeout, but decided to run backward and take a safety to cut the lead to 27-21 with 12 seconds remaining. Lake Mary got the ball back, and ultimately delivered with the Hail Mary.

After the game, Lake Mary coach Scott Parry told reporters that his team never stopped battling, and they did everything to earn that chance.

“I was just hoping and praying like everyone else that he was going to come down with the football and Barrett did,” Perry said, per Treasure Coast Newspapers. “… We were just going to keep fighting and fighting until the final whistle.”

Vero Beach was having a season for the ages, and was undefeated and looking for the first state title since 1981.

Skip Bayless has been screaming his praise for Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia over the last two seasons. And lately Bayless, a graduate from Vanderbilt in 1974, has been clamoring for Pavia to win the Heisman Trophy.

On Saturday night, Pavia finished second in the 2025 race, as Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the award.

It didn’t take long for Bayless to issue a response. He went to social media right after Mendoza was announced as the winner to continue his support for Pavia.

“Congrats to Fernando Mendoza … nice memorized, rehearsed speech,” Bayless posted on X. “But Diego Pavia deserved this award for his performance on the field, even if his swagger and edge rubbed some voters and viewers the wrong way.”

Mendoza had 643 first-place votes and 2,632 points, while Pavia was far behind with 189 first-place votes and 1,435 total points. The other two candidates in New York were Jeremiyah Love and Julian Sayin, who finished third and fourth, respectively.

Pavia helped lead Vanderbilt to the greatest 2-year stretch in school history. Last year, the Commodores knocked off Alabama and won their first bowl game since 2013. This season, Pavia led the team to its first-ever 10-win regular season, with the only losses being at Alabama and Texas.

While the Commodores didn’t make the College Football Playoff, the team did accept a bowl invitation to take on Iowa in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year’s Eve. That will allow Bayless to have one final opportunity to watch his guy.

On Saturday night, Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza was named the 2025 Heisman Trophy winner after guiding Indiana to an undefeated season and a B1G Championship win against Ohio State.

The former California quarterback transferred in last offseason and has helped take Indiana to the top of the college football world. He won the award over Diego Pavia, Jeremiah Love and Julian Sayin.

After being announced as the winner, Mendoza delivered an emotional and powerful speech. Fans and media from across college football praised Mendoza for the speech.

Here’s the best of that reaction:

Mendoza throughout the season showed the ability to handle any postgame interview, and the speech he gave on Saturday night was just another one for the books.

On the year, he threw for 2,980 yards, 33 touchdowns and six interceptions. In the biggest moments of the season against Penn State and Ohio State, Mendoza delivered big time throws to help the team remain undefeated.

For the Hoosiers, they hope their quarterback winning the Heisman Trophy is just the start of an incredible next month. The Hoosiers are the No. 1 seed in the CFP, and will take on the winner of the Oklahoma and Alabama in a quarterfinal game at the Rose Bowl on New Year’s Day.

CBS Sports’ Rick Neuheisel believes Kalen DeBoer will remain at Alabama despite recent rumors regarding the Michigan job.

The speculation that DeBoer could move to Ann Arbor this offseason has been a bit of a distraction for Alabama this week as it prepares to take on Oklahoma in the College Football Playoff on Friday.

However, Neuheisel isn’t buying that DeBoer could leave for Michigan.

“My sources say that Kalen DeBoer is happy in Tuscaloosa and will stay there,” Neuheisel said.

For Crimson Tide fans, that is a little bit of good news, as they want their coach focused solely on the upcoming game against the Sooners. The Crimson Tide would be hosting this game if they hadn’t lost to the Sooners just a fews ago by a score of 23-21 in Tuscaloosa.

In college football, things can change quickly, and the end of this year has been as wild of a coaching cycle as we have seen in quite some time. The Michigan job is one of the prime jobs in college football, but for now, Neuheisel thinks DeBoer is going to stay in Tuscaloosa for the foreseeable future.

LSU will look to end a wild 2025 season on a positive note when they take on the Houston Cougars in the 2025 Texas Bowl.

However, LSU is set to be an underdog against Houston later this month. Per DraftKings, LSU is a 3-point underdog against Houston. The total for this game is currently set at 43.5.

LSU entered the season with big expectations, and the Tigers got off to a tremendous start behind an elite defense. The Tigers started off 4-0, getting up to No. 4 in the country before losing to Ole Miss on Sept. 27. LSU ultimately went just 7-5 during the regular season.

LSU’s offense was supposed to be one of the best in the country, but that side of the ball couldn’t find any consistency this year. That was a huge factor in why Brian Kelly was eventually let go.

The matchup against Houston will provide new head coach Lane Kiffin an opportunity to look at younger players on LSU’s roster ahead of a pivotal 2026 campaign.

This game will kick off on Dec. 27.

Zach Arnett is back in Starkville as the defensive coordinator at Mississippi State.

Arnett has plenty of history at Mississippi State. He started as the defensive coordinator in 2020 and was promoted to head coach after Mike Leach’s passing in December of 2022.

While it didn’t end well for Arnett as head coach in Starkville, he is back as the defensive coordinator for coach Jeff Lebby. Arnett commented on his return to Mississippi State via a press release on Sunday.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to return to Mississippi State and lead this defense,” Arnett said in a statement. “This place means a great deal to me and my family, and Starkville has always felt like home. I’m excited to get to work for Coach Lebby, support his vision and do my part in contributing to the program.”

The Bulldogs took a big step last season under Lebby, as they went 5-7 after wining only two games last season. With many of the teams across the country turning down bowl invites, Mississippi State is taking advantage of its opportunity to play in the postseason. The Bulldogs will face Wake Forest in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl.

The bowl game will allow Arnett to be able to take a look at what the Bulldogs have on the roster, and help the team plan for what it needs in the offseason.

Steve Sarkisian spent much of the last two weeks making his case on why Texas deserved to be one of the 12 teams in the College Football Playoff. However, on Sunday, the Longhorns found out they would not be heading back after making it to the CFP semifinals the last two seasons.

Notre Dame was another team on the outside looking in when the final bracket was revealed, and the Fighting Irish decided to turn down a bowl invite after being snubbed from the CFP. However, Sarkisian said that was never even a thought for the Longhorns as the team will be taking on Michigan in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.

“We did not,” Steve Sarkisian said when asked if Texas considered opting out of a bowl game. “We felt like if we didn’t get into the CFP being right on the cusp, we would have a really good chance to go to a really good bowl game. You think about the longstanding history and tradition of the Citrus Bowl with a really quality opponent in Michigan.”

By participating in the Citrus Bowl, Texas will also have an opportunity to have 15 bowl practices, which can be impactful for younger players.

Texas will face Michigan at 3 p.m. ET on Dec. 31.

Later in the day, ESPN has announced its commentary team on Sunday for the College Football Playoff clash between Tulane and Ole Miss game that will take place on Dec. 20 in Oxford.

The play-by-play man will be Joe Tessitore with Jesse Palmer being the analyst. Katie George and Quint Kessenich will be working the sidelines, per ESPN’s announcement.

The first-round showdown between the No. 6 seed Rebels and No. 11 Green Wave will kick off at 3:30 ET and be broadcast on TNT, Tru Tv and HBO Max. It figures to be an electric atmosphere, as it is the first game for the Rebels since Lane Kiffin announced he was leaving for LSU.

Both Tulane and Ole Miss are familiar with each other, as the two teams faced off earlier in the season. The Rebels won that game 45-10 In that game, Trinidad Chambliss threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another 112.

The Green Wave extended the Jon Sumrall era at Tulane as they knocked off North Texas to clinch the CFP spot. Sumrall has been announced as the new coach at Florida, but the Gators are allowing him to finish the season.

Auburn has decided not to accept a bowl invitation this year, according to a report.

The Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 5-7 and were not automatically eligible to make a bowl. However, several teams all across the country have been turning down invites to bowls as they begin to focus on next year.

Auburn will be starting a new era next season as Alex Golesh takes over to become the head coach. Thus, per On3’s Brett McMurphy, Auburn has decided to not accept a bowl bid.

Even bowl eligible teams like K-State and Iowa State have turned down bowl invites despite having won at least six games this year. Like Auburn though, both of those programs will be entering next season with a new coach. The Big 12 came down hard on them, fining each of those schools $500,000.

For Golesh, this next month is absolutely vital in setting Auburn up for success next year. Jackson Arnold announced he was joining the transfer portal, and wide receiver Cam Coleman would be arguably the most sought out transfer if he were to enter the portal.

Auburn will now prepare for the start of the transfer portal later this offseason.

ESPN and ABC will be on the broadcast for two of the four first round games in the College Football Playoff. The network got the first two games of the first-round weekend, starting with a rematch between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Oklahoma Sooners.

Oklahoma won the first matchup in Tuscaloosa in mid-November when the Sooners knocked off the Crimson Tide, 23-21.

With the rematch scheduled for Dec. 19, ESPN announced that it would be sending its top broadcasting crew with Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbsreit, Holly Rowe and Laura Rutledge.

The Crimson Tide were squarely on the bubble after losing 28-7 against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Saturday night. The loss to the Sooners at home was a huge reason why they were in that spot, and it started a rough last four games for Alabama.

After a 7-1 start, the Crimson Tide finished 2-2 to end the season, and even one of their wins was a very difficult win against a 5-win Auburn team.

This broadcast crew has seen the Crimson Tide at their best this year, as they were on the call for Alabama’s win at Georgia early in the season. For the Crimson Tide, they will look to show that type of magic against the Sooners in Norman on Dec. 19.

Ty Simpson and the Alabama Crimson Tide have been one of the best passing attacks in all of college football. However, he struggled in a big way on Saturday, going only 19-of-39 for 212 yards in the 28-7 loss to Georgia in the SEC Championship on Saturday.

He threw one touchdown in the game, but also threw a pick. On the season, he has thrown for 3,056 yards, 25 touchdowns and only four interceptions.

After the game, Simpson told reporters it was frustrating because he feels Alabama has the best offense in the nation, but didn’t show it vs. the Bulldogs.

“Yeah, we have a standard as an offense in general. Actually, we know we’re the best offense in the country,” Simpson said. “Then when we don’t show it, it’s very frustrating, especially times when we’re just a couple things away. Like I said, credit to Georgia’s defense, right? They had a good plan. That’s pretty much simple as that.”

The ground game has been an issue all year for Alabama, but it has never been worse than it was on Saturday. The Crimson Tide finished with -3 rushing yards on 16 carries. That, combined with the Bulldogs taking a big lead made it nearly impossible for the Crimson Tide to have any type of balance on offense.

Simpson is hoping that the Crimson Tide offense will have the opportunity to showcase that it is the best in the country in the College Football Playoff.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs took care of business on Saturday, as they knocked off Alabama by a score of 28-7 to win the SEC Championship, while also exacting some revenge from the regular season loss to the Crimson Tide.

Last season, the Bulldogs won the SEC by beating Texas in the conference championship.

Being able to get the win this season is something Smart said “means the world” to him.

“It means the world to me,” Smart told Laura Rutledge on the SEC Football Final after the game. “I grew up in this footprint. I am an SEC Kid like these guys. It really hit me today on the show, the gameday when I was there with DeBoer and Nick and they showed Roy Kramer. I almost got emotional. I didn’t even know in my wildest dreams of preparing for this game that he had passed. His dream was this game. I love the SEC, and I love this team.”

Kramer passed away on Thursday at the age of 96. He was the sixth commissioner in the history of the SEC, as he was in that role from 1990 to 2002. He played a huge role in the development of the conference, especially when it comes to the SEC Championship game.

Tim Tebow also asked Smart about the future of the SEC Championship Game during his appearance on the SEC Football Final desk.

“It means so much to so many,” Smart added. “I don’t want to say it’s bigger than the national championship, I’m not saying that. But to so many people who are so passionate about it, it means so much.”

Georgia will learn its seeding in the College Football Playoff on Sunday.

Former Alabama running back Mark Ingram doesn’t believe the Crimson Tide have earned a College Football Playoff berth.

The former Heisman Trophy winner shared his thoughts on Alabama’s case after its 28-7 loss to Georgia on Saturday in the SEC Championship Game.

“Bama, you played Georgia in the SEC Championship and you lose by 21,” Ingram said during the pregame coverage of the B1G Championship game. “I have too much Bama in me, but you are out. Now, Miami and Notre Dame should both get in, in my opinion. I think that is the decision the committee is going to have to make. When you have 2 bad losses and the championship game, you have to play well in the championship game.”

The Crimson Tide haven’t played their best football as of late, as they went only 2-2 in their last four games while also having to hang on against a 5-7 Auburn team last week in the Iron Bowl.

While Kalen DeBoer believes his team has done enough to make it, others — including Ingram — have argued that the Tide should be out.

The final CFP bracket will be revealed on Sunday.

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama could have clinched a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win against Georgia in the SEC Championship game on Saturday. However, they were dominated by the Bulldogs in the game, and ended up losing 28-7.

With the loss, the Crimson Tide are no longer a lock to make it to the CFP, as they are now 10-3 on the season.

While it is going to be an anxious Saturday night as the Crimson Tide awaits the CFP committee decision, DeBoer believes the committee set a precedent last year that should have the team in the playoffs.

“If this game applies to and takes away from our résumé, I don’t think that’s right,” DeBoer said. “I really don’t. I think a precedent has been set. I don’t know how you can go into a conference playoff game when you’re the No. 1 seed and did all these things throughout the year … how that can hurt you and keep you out of the Playoff when we’ve done what we’ve done all year.”

Last season, an 11-1 SMU team took on Clemson in the ACC Championship game. The Tigers made a field goal in the final seconds to win the game, but the Mustangs still were able to make it to the CFP over a 9-3 Alabama team that barely missed the cut.

For DeBoer and Alabama, they are hoping that what happened last year is how the committee will do it once again.

The CFP bracket will be announced on Sunday at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN as they will announce the 12-playoff teams, as well as the rest of the bowl games.

Kirby Smart led the Georgia Bulldogs to a 28-7 win in the SEC Championship game against Ty Simpson and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The two have faced each other twice this season, with each team winning a game.

After the win on Saturday, the two were seen embracing at midfield, with the Bulldogs coach giving Simpson words of wisdom.

In the first matchup in Athens, Simpson did a phenomenal job of controlling the game. However, Smart and the Bulldogs made his job much tougher on Saturday, as they complete shut down the Crimson Tide’s offense.

Simpson was able to completely only 19 of his 39 pass attempts, finishing with 212 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Crimson Tide have struggled running the ball all year, and that once again was the case on Saturday as they -3 rushing yards on 16 carries.

Alabama could have clinched a berth in the College Football Playoff with a win on Saturday, but now Simpson and his team are going to be anxiously waiting to see if they will still get a chance to compete for the national title. The final bracket will be revealed on Sunday.

Kalen DeBoer and Alabama beat Georgia in the regular season, but the Bulldogs got their revenge in convincing fashion on Saturday in the SEC Championship with a 28-7 win against the Crimson Tide.

Early in the fourth quarter, Alabama was down 21-7 and facing a 4th and 2 from its own 12-yard line. Instead of punting the ball, the Crimson Tide went for it — but Ty Simpson’s pass was incomplete. The decision gave the Bulldogs the ball in great field position, which they turned into another touchdown to make it a 28-7 game.

After the game, DeBoer was asked about that decision.

“I’m here to win an SEC championship,” DeBoer said. “If you lose by one or more it’s still a loss.”

With the loss, the Crimson Tide are going to have a stressful Saturday night to see if they have done enough to make it to the College Football Playoff. DeBoer after the game voiced his opinion that he believed his team had done enough to get into the field with a 10-3 record.

Alabama entered Saturday’s game with a chance to clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game if the Crimson Tide could knock off in-state rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Almost any time these 2 teams play, it is a competitive battle with some incredible endings.

While it wasn’t easy, the Alabama Crimson Tide did just enough to get the victory, and will now take on Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

The Crimson Tide got off to a fast start against the Tigers, as Ty Simpson threw 2 first-half touchdowns to take an early 17-0 lead. However, the Tigers were able to cut the deficit to 11 at the half, and then got right back in the game when Malcolm Simmons caught a 64-yard pass to cut the deficit to 4.

Simmons again made his presence felt in the game, as he took a 66-yard pass to the 2-yard line that Jeremiah Cobb finished to tie the game at 20.

Ultimately, Alabama got a third touchdown catch from Isaiah Horton to clinch a dramatic 27-20 victory over its heated rival.

With the win, the Crimson Tide will take on Georgia in a rematch from a game in Athens earlier in the year. Alabama picked up its biggest win of the season that night, as the Crimson Tide held on to beat the Bulldogs, 24-21.

Simpson was fantastic in that game 24-of-38 for 276 yards, while scoring 3 total touchdowns. With the win against Auburn, the Crimson Tide figure to have clinched a spot in the College Football Playoff. But the winner of this game could potentially have a bye in the first round.

Billy Gonzales has filled in as the interim coach at Florida since the school announced that it would be firing Billy Napier early in the season. On Saturday, the Gators finished off their season with a convincing 40-21 victory against in-state rival Florida State to finish the year at 4-8.

Even though it was a tough year for the Gators, the team continued to battle for its interim coach and allowed him to go out a winner. After the win, Gonzales shared a heartfelt message with reporters thanking the university and his players for the opportunity.

“With this being the last time for me to talk with you, I want to take this time to think Mr. Scott Stricklin for the opportunity to lead this program the last six weeks,” Gonzales told reporters. “I appreciate the trust in me he had to do the job and to lead the team with a victory. Finishing it with a win makes it more special. I want to thank the players for sticking together and staying the course over the last few weeks. It will always be about the players. I want to thank you all (media) for your professionalism and generosity during my time leading the program.

Gonzales has coached three different times in Gainesville in many different roles. From 2005 to 2009, he spent time as the receiver’s coach. In 2018, he came back as the co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers. He switched to the passing game coordinator in 2020.

In 2022, he went to Florida Atlantic to be the receiver’s coach, but he returned to Florida in 2023 again as the wide receiver coach.

The Gators are rumored to be in zeroing in on Tulane coach Jon Sumrall as the next guy in Gainesville, but Gonzales was able to go out a winner in his final game for Florida.

Oklahoma entered Saturday needing a win against LSU to clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff. While it was much tougher than expected, the Sooners were able to get a 17-13 come from behind win to move to 10-2 on the season.

The victory was obviously the biggest news of the day, but it wasn’t the only big news for Brent Venables and his staff.

On Saturday night, 4-star edge Krew Jones announced that he would be heading to Norman.

“The coaching staff at OU is different,” Jones told On3. “I really like what they are doing on the defensive side of the ball. It’s my kind of ball. Relentless, violent and fast.”

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Jones is a 4-star recruit and the No. 149 prospect in the 2027 class. He is the No. 19 edge in the class, and is the second best player in Utah.

Jones is another addition to a recruiting class that is emerging as one of the very best in the country. With Jones commitment, the Sooners currently have the No. 1 class in 2027.

Jadan Baugh and the Florida Gators capped off their 2025 season with an emphatic 41-20 victory against in-state rival Florida State on Saturday. Baugh had a monster day, as he finished with 38 carries for 266 yards and two touchdowns.

With just over 56 seconds left, the Gators had the ball at the 12-yard line. While he was instructed to slide, Baugh made the decision to add insult to injury to his rival and score a touchdown.

After the game, Baugh said that he ignored his coach and had to deliver an extra message to his rival.

“Man, coach told me to slide, but I was like, ‘Coach, don’t do me like that, we don’t like these guys,” Baugh said after the game.

For context, here’s a clip of Baugh’s second and final touchdown of the night, which put an exclamation point on a 41-20 win over the Noles:

Baugh ended his sophomore campaign with 1,170 rushing yards, and he figures to be one of the most important players for Florida to keep in the offseason.

It has been a disappointing year for the Gators, who ended the year with a record of 4-8. The school decided early in the season to fire Billy Napier, and now will put all of its focus on bringing in the next coach.

John Mateer for much of the game against LSU had a really tough night. He finished the game 23-of-38 for 318 yards and two touchdowns, but also had three interceptions in the first three quarters.

However, at the quarterback position, it is all about being able to make the plays late in the game when the team needs them. Mateer delivered when it mattered most, as he connected with wide receiver Isiah Sategna on a 58-yard touchdown with 4:16 remaining in the game to give the Sooners a 17-13 lead that they wouldn’t relinquish.

While it wasn’t his best performance, Mateer said he had to do whatever was needed to get the win.

“When you have a third quarter like I did, I knew I just had to keep going out there and playing football,” Mateer said on the postgame radio interview after the game. “I was either going to hate myself forever or become a man.”

Mateer has been battling a hand injury for much of the season, and hasn’t quite put up the type of season that Oklahoma fans had hoped for when he transferred from Washington State.

For much of Saturday, it looked like Mateer might be ending his season in Norman with a loss that prevented the team from making it to the College Football Playoff. However, in his own words, he became a man on Saturday night and helped the Sooners be in prime position to host a CFP game.

The bracket will be revealed next Sunday.

Clark Lea and the Vanderbilt Commodores completed the greatest season in the program’s history on Saturday with a 45-24 victory against in-state rival Tennessee. The Commodores were led once again by star quarterback Diego Pavia. He threw for 268 yards and one score, while rushing for another 165 yards and one rushing touchdown.

Pavia all season long has been saying that he wants to win the Heisman Trophy, and Vanderbilt coach Clark Lea made it known after the game that his quarterback deserves to be at the ceremony in New York as a finalist.

“He needs to be in New York,” Lea said. “He’s the best player in the country.”

Pavia shared the same sentiment as his coach, as he made a plea to be a finalist for the Heisman Trophy after the win over Tennessee.

“Take me to New York,” Pavia said after the game. “I feel like if you go look at the numbers, and look at what we got here. Obviously, we did something that has never been done. It is a blessing to be here on this stage, something I dreamed about since I was a kid.”

Pavia put together a season for the ages this year. He finished the regular season with 3,192 pass yards and an SEC-leading 27 passing touchdowns. He is also a major threat with his legs, as he finished with 826 rushing yards and nine more scores.

In a season that there hasn’t been one guy that has separated himself from the rest of the pack, Pavia has a great chance to be in New York at the Heisman Trophy presentation. The Commdores will also be on alert to see if they potentially have done enough to make it to the College Football Playoff, as they entered Saturday ranked No. 14.

Vanderbilt entered Saturday having put together one of the best seasons in school history, and looked to cap it off with a win against rival Tennessee to cap off the season.

The Commodores delivered in convincing fashion, as they knocked off the Volunteers 45-24 to win 10 games in a season for the first time in school history.

The Commodores had won nine games in a season four previous times in its program history, with the last one being in 2013.

It was a back-and-forth battle with their in-state rival for the first half, but the Commodores pulled away for the dominating victory. Diego Pavia has been the face of Vanderbilt the last two seasons, and he delivered one final incredible performance in the win against Tennessee.

He threw for 268 yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 165 yards and one more score.

Now for the Commodores, they wait to see if they have done enough to make it to the College Football Playoff. One thing for sure is that Pavia, coach Clark Lea and the entire team has taken the program to another level.

Diego Pavia has not been shy at all during the 2025 college football season when it comes to him winning the Heisman Trophy. He has on multiple occasions let it be known in multiple interviews this season that his goal is to wind up in New York and win the award.

Since he became the quarterback at Vanderbilt, Pavia has taken the football program to another level. Entering Saturday’s rivalry game at Tennessee, the Commodores were 9-2 and had a legitimate shot at making it to the College Football Playoff.

Pavia only fueled the Heisman hype on Saturday, as he celebrated a huge touchdown against the Volunteers by hitting the ‘Heisman’ pose. The touchdown put the Vols up 38-24 and they ultimately won 45-24.

Pavia has been a dual-threat all season long for the Commodores, and he showed that on Saturday by going over 400 yards of total offense while scoring two total touchdowns. He rushed for more than 150 yards in the way, and joined Sedrick Alexander in both going over 100 yards on the ground against the Volunteers.

The Commodores wrapped up one of their best regular seasons in program history, and it could end with potentially a spot in the CFP, as well as Pavia making that appearance in New York at the Heisman Trophy presentation.

Alabama is gearing up for the biggest game in the first two seasons of the Kalen DeBoer era this weekend as the Crimson Tide are set to take on Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday.

With a win, the Crimson Tide will clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game and more than likely clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff.

While the team is having a ton of success this year, the Crimson Tide did get some bad news on Monday as 4-star prospect Samuelu Utu announced that he was no longer committed to Alabama.

Curious about Daily Fantasy Sports? Here’s a complete breakdown of all the daily fantasy sports legal states as of 2025!

Utu has been committed to Alabama since June, choosing the Crimson Tide over other schools such as SMU, USC, Nebraska and many others. According to 247Sports Composite rankings, he is a 4-star recruit and the No. 255 player in the 2026 class. He is ranked as the No. 18 interior offensive lineman in the class and the No. 24 prospect in California.

Alabama is still set up to have a great 2026 class. The Crimson Tide currently have the No. 3 ranked class, trailing only USC and Georgia. With four 5-star prospects, they are currently tied with Oregon and Notre Dame for the most in the class.

SEC fans are gearing up for an incredible final week in the regular season, as there is still so much in the air when it comes to the conference. Currently, there isn’t a single team that has clinched a spot in the SEC Championship game.

Texas A&M, Alabama, Georgia and Ole Miss could all find themselves playing in the conference championship. On Monday, the conference released the official clinching scenarios.

Texas A&M and Alabama are the only two schools that control their own destiny. If they both win, they would face each other in Atlanta. If the Crimson Tide lose, then they are eliminated from the conversation. The Aggies could actually get in if they lose to Texas, as long as either Alabama and Ole Miss also lose.

Georgia doesn’t play an SEC opponent in its final game, as the Bulldogs will take on Georgia Tech in Atlanta. However, if either the Aggies or Alabama lose, then the Bulldogs will be playing in the SEC Championship.

The Rebels are in the toughest spot. They have to beat Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl and have both Alabama and Texas A&M lose their games.

While all four teams would like to play in the conference championship, the ultimate goal is to make it to the CFP. If all four of these teams win next week, then they are in a great spot to make it.

While this figures to be one of the biggest games of the weekend, ESPN’s SP+ is predicting Texas A&M will remain undefeated on the season with a 30-25 victory against Longhorns.

One of the biggest games of the weekend is the Iron Bowl between Auburn and Alabama. The Crimson Tide with a win in this game would likely clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff.

In its final regular-season predictions, ESPN’s SP+ forecasts that Alabama will secure an Iron Bowl victory, projecting a 27-21 win against Auburn.

This matchup marks the 90th all-time meeting between these two programs, and the Crimson Tide enter the game with a record of 51-37-1.

The Crimson Tide have struggled to run the ball, but they fixed some of those issues last week in the 56-0 win against Eastern Illinois. They scored eight rushing touchdowns, which was the most for the team since 1979.

It has been a tough year for the Tigers, as coach Hugh Freeze was fired earlier in the season. However, freshman quarterback Deuce Knight showcased his potential as he scored six touchdowns on Saturday against Mercer. He passed for 239 yards and two touchdowns, while rushing for another 162 yards and four scores.

Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs have dealt with off-the-field issues the past few seasons and had another incident over the weekend as offensive lineman Nyier Daniels was arrested on Sunday morning.

Daniels, a former 4-star recruit from Newark, N.J., was booked at the Jackson County Jail. He is facing charges that include fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, along with two second-degree child cruelty charges. Daniels is also facing other driving-related charges.

On Monday, while talking to reporters, Smart announced that Daniels was no longer on the team.

“I know you guys want to ask about Nyier. I have not had a chance to talk with him or his family,” Smart told reporters. “Obviously, he will no longer be with us.”

Daniels played 29 snaps for Georgia this season. A redshirt freshman, Daniels played exclusively at right tackle when he saw the field this season.

The Bulldogs will look to continue their march to the College Football Playoff when they take on in-state rival Georgia Tech in Week 13.

Ja’Marr Chase was suspended for the Cincinnati Bengals’ loss against the New England Patriots on Sunday after the league determined he spat on Jalen Ramsey during in the previous game.

Chase initially denied spitting on Ramsey but walked back those comments on Monday. Chase made a statement on social media acknowledging his mistake.

“What I did was wrong,” Chase said in the statement. “The circumstances don’t matter. My passion for the game is no excuse. There’s zero place in our sport — or in life — for that level of disrespect. I am committed to earning back your respect. Not just with my words, but with my actions day after day, on and off the field.”

Frustrations have been boiling over for the Bengals, as they dropped to 3-7 on the season after losing 26-20 to the Patriots. Joe Burrow has missed much of the season, but could return on Thanksgiving night when the Bengals take on the Baltimore Ravens.

Chase could start the process of winning the trust of the rest of the Bengals by having a big game in a must-win matchup against the AFC North leading Ravens.

The former LSU star has 79 catches for 861 yards and 5 touchdown receptions so far this year.

While neither of these teams are going to be playing in a bowl game, this game still promises to be as intense of every season. Kickoff between the Seminoles and Gators will be at 4:30 p.m. ET will be on ESPN2.

Neither of the teams has had the season they would have hoped for. The Gators fired coach Billy Napier during the season, while the Seminoles will have a tough decision to make with coach Mike Norvell.

The Seminoles were the talk of college football in Week 1, as they dominated in a 31-17 win against Alabama. However, since then it has been a tough year. They have to win this game to become bowl eligible.

As bad as it has been in Tallahassee, it has been even worse for the Florida Gators. They enter this game with a 3-8 record, and have been blown out in recent losses to Kentucky and Tennessee.

The SEC will feature some of the biggest games during college football’s ‘Rivalry Week’ in the final regular season. Many of the games have historic meaning like the Egg Bowl between Mississippi State as well as the Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn.

While Oklahoma and LSU isn’t necessarily a huge rival when it comes to tradition, that doesn’t mean the stakes are any lower in next week’s game. The Sooners would all but clinch a spot in the College Football Playoff with a win. The SEC announced that kickoff will be at 3:30 p.m. ET and that the game will be on ABC.

The Sooners continued their amazing season after they defeated Missouri 17-6 on Saturday. After a home loss against Ole Miss, the Sooners were 6-2 and on the outside looking in at making the CFP. However, they put together one of the best two-game stretches of any team this season, as they went and won consecutive road games at Tennessee and Alabama.

The defense has been as good as there has been in the country all season long, and once again the Sooners showed that in the win against Missouri. They held the nation’s No. 1 running back Ahmad Hardy to only 57 yards on 17 carries. That is the second fewest he has rushed for this year.

With just one more regular season, the Sooners could all but clinch that CFP spot with a win against the Tigers.

For many years in college football, ‘Pac 12 After Dark’ had become a weekly phenomenon. Late into Saturday night, and even Sunday mornings on the east coast, college football fans were provided with the ultimate drama at all times of night.

With the Pac-12, that is no longer a thing as teams from the conference left for the Big 12 and the B1G a couple of years ago. Washington and UCLA both went to the B1G, and the former Pac 12 rivals were facing each other on Saturday night.

As the Bruins looked to kick a field goal in the game, a botched fake field goal provided fans a play reminiscent of one of those moments.

With the Bruins trailing 13-0, they ran a fake where they were pitching it to the kicker. However, it wasn’t a good pitch, and Washington star Alex McLaughlin took it 59 yards the other way to help the team run away with the 48-14 victory.

These two teams played many times during the Pac-10 and Pac-12 era, and that rivalry has continued in a new conference. While we will never get a ‘Pac-12 After Dark’ moment again, there will always be some wild late-night college football memories.

Danny Kanell is never one to shy away from voicing his opinion when it comes to college football season. With the season entering the final week of the regular season next week, the College Football Playoff rankings are now more important than they have been all season.

Next week is Rivalry Week, with many of the top teams in the country having to take on a rival that would love nothing more than to put a huge dent in their rival’s conference championship hopes, as well as their CFP chances.

Kanell posted his top 12 rankings heading into Week 13, and it isn’t that much different from the CFP rankings.

Ohio State, Indiana and Texas A&M are all ranked in the top 3, but Ohio State and Texas A&M both have road games against their biggest rival. The Buckeyes will be traveling to Ann Arbor, looking to end a four-game losing streak against Michigan. The Aggies on the other hand, will be traveling to Austin, having lost four of the last five matchups against the Texas Longhorns, including last year’s 17-7 game in College Station.

Every season, ‘Rivalry Week’ plays a huge role in the CFP race, and this year figures to be no different.

College football is an emotional sport for everybody involved. From the fans to the coaches and players, emotions can run high for everyone. Sometimes, emotions can get the best of people, and that is what happened during the game between Boise State and Colorado State.

Rams quarterback Darius Curry was pushed down by a Boise State defender. Then, Curry ran towards the Broncos player and was caught on camera clearly spitting in his face, but the officials missed it and he wasn’t penalized on the play.

Here’s a clip:

It was a frustrating night for the Rams, as they fell to 2-8 on the season in the 49-21 loss to the Broncos. Curry had an up-and-down night, as he finished with 293 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions.

Spitting has happened multiple times in the NFL this year, as guys like Ja’Marr Chase and Jalen Carter have been suspended or ejected from a game because of spitting in an opponent’s face.

The Rams will be looking for a new coach in the off-season, as they recently let Jay Norvell go. With a new staff coming, they are going to be looking to see what players they want to keep on the team. Plays like that could be a reason why that new staff may not want Curry back on the roster.

Deuce Knight has been waiting for his chance to be the quarterback for Auburn, and fans have been calling for him for quite some time. On Saturday, he got his first career start against Mercer and provided the type of performance that gives Tigers fans hope for the future.

In his first career start, Knight went 15-of-20 for 239 yards and two touchdowns. However, he also showcased his running potential, as he rushed for another 162 yards and four more scores.

Jackson Arnold was the starter at the beginning of the year, but he has lost the job in the last couple weeks. Despite that, Knight had nothing but praise for Arnold, saying he helped him prepare for this game.

“Jackson called out what coverage they were going to play on the first snap,” Knight said. “He is probably one of the smartest guys I know. It was exactly what Jackson called out. I told my whole family that I believe Jackson is probably one of the 10 smartest people I have ever met. He called it out.”

Knight entered Auburn with huge expectations. According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, he was a 5-star recruit and the No. 28 prospect in the 2025 class. Before the game Saturday, he was only 2-of-5 passing for 20 yards.

The Tigers face a much tougher opponent in the regular season finale, as they take on Alabama in the Iron Bowl. With a win, Auburn would be bowl eligible, while also potentially eliminating the Crimson Tide from the SEC race as well as the College Football Playoff.

Andrew Luck knows all about the Stanford and California rivalry having played in it during his time as the Cardinal quarterback. Luck is the general manager now at his alma mater, and he is as passionate of a GM as there is in the sport.

During the game on Saturday night, Luck showed that passion as the Cardinal scored a huge touchdown while Luck was being interviewed on the sideline.

Here’s a clip of the moment:

California was up 7-3 when Stanford defensive back Jay Green returned a fumble 55 yards for a touchdown to give Stanford the lead.

Luck was the quarterback in Palo Alto from 2008-2011, where he threw for 9,430 yards, 82 touchdowns and 22 touchdowns. He finished second in the Heisman Trophy race in 2011. In his final two seasons, the Cardinal won 23 games, which broke the previous record of 18 wins in a two-season stretch.

Luck became the general manager in November of 2024, and he promised to get the program back to the level it was when he was playing there. Head coach Frank Reich is in that role on an interim basis, so the Cardinal will be looking for a long-term coach this off-season.

Urban Meyer is responsible for arguably the greatest six-year stretch in the history of the Florida program from 2005-2010. During that time, the Gators were 65-15, while winning the national championship in both 2006 and 2008.

Meyer was in Gainesville on Saturday to be recognized that he will be joining the College Football Hall of Fame on Dec. 9 in Las Vegas. However, that wasn’t the only announcement on Meyer, as the school also announced that he would be the seventh member of the Florida Ring of Honor.

Meyer will join Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Steve Spurrier, Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel and Jack Youngblood as the only other people to receiver this honor. In a statement released by Florida on the announcement, Meyer made sure to give thanks to the Florida fans.

“I am truly honored and humbled to be selected for the Florida Football Ring of Honor,” Meyer said in the statement. “My time at Florida holds so many special memories for me and my family. Everything we accomplished was the result of an extraordinary coaching staff who recruited exceptional players and were supported every day by the University, the Athletic Department, and the entire Gator Nation. I want to thank Dr. Bernie Machen and Jeremy Foley for bringing us to Gainesville and for embracing our family and our staff from the very beginning. There is nothing like game day in The Swamp—the energy of 90,000 fans behind you, pushing and willing you to victory.”

The Gators are in the market for a coach that they are hoping can take them back to the level that they were under Meyer. The team fired Billy Napier earlier in the season, and the team was 3-7 on the year entering the rivalry game against Tennessee on Saturday night.

Bobby Petrino has been the interim coach for Arkansas since the school fired coach Sam Pittman early in the season. The team lost its first three games with Petrino as the coach, and things got even worse on Saturday as they were blown-out 52-37 by the Texas Longhorns.

It was competitive in the first half, as it was only a four-point game at the half. However, the Longhorns outscored the Razorbacks 21-3 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.

After the game, Petrino voiced his frustrations with the team, saying the “attitude” of some players didn’t meet his standard.

“For the first time I felt like there was a couple of guys on the team that’s attitude wasn’t where it needed to be,” Petrino said. “That’s not what we want.”

To put up 512 yards of offense against the Texas defense is an impressive feat. The Longhorns have been one of the best defenses in the country, with the 37 points allowed being the second most they have given up this year.

Arkansas is expected to hire a permanent head coach at some point in the coming weeks.

Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt continued its dream 2025 season on Saturday as they defeated the Kentucky Wildcats 45-17.

With the win, the Commodores move to 9-2 on the season, and they have a legitimate chance at making it to the College Football Playoff. Arguably the biggest reason why Vanderbilt is a CFP contender is because of the play off its quarterback.

Pavia has been good all season long, but he was at his best on Saturday. He went 32-of-38 throwing the ball, finishing with a school record 484 passing yards, while also throwing four touchdowns.

That performance may have been enough to get Pavia back into the Heisman Trophy conversation. Over on Kalshi, a predictions market that’s legal in all 50 states, Pavia’s Heisman odds have risen to top-4 status as of Saturday evening.

Pavia is now trailing only Fernando Mendoza, Julian Sayin and Jeremiyah Love in Kalshi’s Heisman Trophy market. Here’s a look at where things currently stand:

There’s plenty of support for Pavia to win the Heisman Trophy, too:

On the season, he has thrown for 2,924 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Before he got to Vanderbilt, the Commodores were consistently finishing at the bottom of the SEC. Last season, the Commodores won their first bowl game since 2013. The Commodores enter next week’s game against Tennessee in a really good spot to potentially clinch a spot in the CFP.

Duke and North Carolina is one of the biggest rivalries in college basketball, but the two schools renewed the rivalry on the football field on Saturday.

The Blue Devils were up 24-10 late in the third quarter, but the Tar Heels scored 15 consecutive points to take the lead. Trailing by one late in the fourth quarter, Duke was about to kick what would have given the team the lead.

Instead, the team decided to call a fake field goal that worked to perfection. The Blue Devils ended up with the ball inside the 5-yard line and scored a touchdown later in the drive. Duke followed that play up with a defensive stop, earning a 32-25 victory over its rival.

Here’s a clip of the fake field goal:

The field goal would have been a 44-yard attempt, but the holder instead pitched it to kicker Todd Pelino who took the ball 26 yards.

Running back Anderson Castle scored on a one-yard touchdown run on the next play, one of his three touchdowns on the day.

With the win, the Blue Devils became bowl eligible and moved to 6-5 on the year. For the Tar Heels, they will be under .500 in Bill Belichick‘s first season as they’re now 4-7 on the year.

Duke will finish its season against Wake Forest next week, while North Carolina will face another big rival as they travel to Raleigh to take on NC State.

Diego Pavia over the last two years has helped take Vanderbilt to new heights. Last season, he helped guide the team to a bowl win for the first time since 2013.

This season has been even better for Pavia and the Commodores. They entered the game against Kentucky with an 8-2 record, and Pavia is looked at as a dark-horse contender to win the Heisman Trophy.

The game against the Wildcats presented Pavia one final time to play at home for Vanderbilt, and he delivered in a memorable fashion as he set a school-record with 484 passing yards. The previous record-holder was Whit Taylor, who threw for 464 yards during the 1981 season.

He was 33-of-39 for 484 yards and five touchdowns, while also rushing for another 48 yards and another touchdown. Pavia entered the week with 2,440 yards, 21 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season.

The Commodores entered the weekend at No. 14 in the CFP, which is just on the outside looking in. They have another chance to secure a big win in the regular season finale when they travel to Knoxville to take on the Tennessee Volunteers in one of the bigger matchups in the rivalry in quite some time.

Alabama entered Saturday looking to get things back on track after losing to Oklahoma at home last weekend. While they were facing an inferior opponent in Eastern Illinois, the Crimson Tide did deliver a historic performance in the 56-0 win.

All eight of Alabama‘s touchdowns on Saturday were scored on the ground, which is the most for the team in a game since 1979.

Back in that 1979 game, Alabama defeated Vanderbilt 66-3.

The Crimson Tide rushed the ball 49 times for 269 yards, and were led by Jam Miller who finished with 62 yards and scored one touchdown. AK Dear and Kevin Riley both finished with two rushing touchdowns, while Austin Mack, Richard Young and Daniel Hill all added one as well.

For Alabama, this sets up the biggest game in the Kalen DeBoer era in Tuscaloosa next week against Auburn. With a win, the Crimson Tide will be set up to potentially make the SEC Championship Game as well as the College Football Playoff. A loss in that game could leave the team on the outside looking in for both.

The ground attack has been an issue all season for the Crimson Tide, and they will face a big challenge running the ball as Auburn ranks 10th in yards allowed (91.9 yards per game), while giving up only 11 rushing touchdowns all season long.

Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners continued their march to the College Football Playoff on Saturday, as they knocked off the Missouri Tigers 17-6 to move to 9-2 on the season.

With the win, the Sooners moved closer to potentially clinching a spot, with only a home game against LSU remaining on the schedule.

The offense didn’t put up big numbers on Saturday, but Xavier Robinson showed the type of toughness that any coach in the country would want. Robinson rushed the ball 12 times for 42 yards in the win, despite dealing with a knee injury.

After the game, Brent Venables talked about the toughness that Robinson showed.

“He showed up on Monday, got a sprained knee… ‘He’s like, put me in a brace. I’m ready to go,’ Venables said. “That’s what guys from Carl Albert do. They show up, even when it hurts.”

There have many talented players who have played their high school football at Carl Albert (Midwest City, Okla.), and Robinson is just the latest to make his presence felt in the college game.

Entering Saturday, Robinson had rushed for 366 yards and four touchdowns, which is second on the team.

At this point in the season, nearly every player is dealing with some kind of injury. It is the teams that can fight through and continue to battle that will go far in the CFP, and Robinson delivered in a big way on Saturday.
